Each month our staff can nominate another team member for a "STARR Award" which stands for "Striving to Achieve Remarkable Results." Recently our Director of Anesthesia and Surgical Services Melissa (left) nominated Social Services Coordinator Kristy (right) for a STARR Award. Melissa said Kristy was deserving of it by saying: “There was a total joint surgical patient that was unable to return home after the procedure. This patient has family that does not live in the Midwest and is unable to be present for the procedure. Kristy spent numerous hours talking to the patient, family, and local nursing homes to secure a safe place to recover post total joint surgery. Because of Kristy’s engagement, we were able to perform the patient’s procedure and provide a rehab location for safe and optimal outcomes. Thanks a million Kristy!” At LRH, we focus on providing exceptional care to our patients and appreciating our team members by also making it a fun place to work. If you or someone you know is interested in a healthcare career, have them give us a call at 712-336-8790 or visit us online!

SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS A recent NHS England GP Patient Survey revealed the best and the worst user rated GP practices in our borough. As a council on your side, we know how important it is that you are able to see a GP and receive a good service. Over the last few years, we have been actively telling the NHS that many of you are concerned about how difficult it is to see a GP. Our efforts in raising these concerns with the NHS have led to a number of improvements in GP services; reflected in those that are pleased with the services they receive at their local GPs, like those in Newport at Wellington Road Surgery or in Madeley at Court Street Medical Practice. However, we are very concerned that people are less satisfied with some GPs elsewhere within the borough. They have told us it’s still difficult for them to get through on the phone with a GP, to get an appointment at a preferred time or that they have low confidence in the doctor they saw. That’s why we are urging the NHS to support GP practices that our residents are not satisfied with to improve their services without delay. To further understand how you feel about your local GP services, our council and Healthwatch Telford & Wrekin are currently running a local survey. You can complete the survey here > https://orlo.uk/2JrPi COMMENTS UNDER THIS POST WILL NOT BE USED AS FEEDBACK - PLEASE CLICK THE SURVEY LINK. Find out more > https://orlo.uk/FvNKp

Hospitalization story: Using a strong bedsheet for transfer Recently, my 87-year-old grandmother-in-law fell in her bathroom. Unable to get up on her own, kind neighbors helped her onto the bed. This transfer was excruciating painful for her, since she had broken left hip, and any leg movement caused her agony. We called for ambulance but there was a challenge? Transferring her from the 7th floor apartment which did not have stretcher lift. Hence, there were two steps of transfer: from bed to wheel chair and then to stretcher of the ambulance. Here's where a memory from my 2008 septoplasty surgery came in handy. While under general anesthesia, I recalled nurses maneuvering me from the operating table to the bed. They carefully lifted the bedsheet I was lying on, transferring it along with me to the bed. Then, they asked me to slightly lift myself a few times so they could remove the sheet beneath me. Inspired by this memory, we replicated the process for my grandmother-in-law. With four people carefully lifting the strong bedsheet beneath her and another person for mid support, we successfully transferred her, minimizing her pain compared to a direct lift. Disclaimer: It's crucial to remember that such solutions are situational and should only be attempted with medical supervision.

#FAQ 𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙜? Insourcing is a simple, cost-effective, successful way to reduce NHS waiting lists. We use NHS premises and equipment to deliver extra clinical capacity, often outside of normal use, such as evenings or weekends. In most cases, it is simply an extension of the Trust’s existing clinical service. Procured through the NHS for a one-off contract or a fully managed service over an extended period. Operating in over 20 different areas of clinical specialties including general surgery, endoscopy, ophthalmology and ENT. We use fully-vetted and registered NHS-experienced consultants, nurses & professionals to deliver care, providing a seamless patient experience. Orthopedic Surgeons on Track to Earn Less Than Taco Bell Workers — If current trends continue, patients are in big trouble Year after year decreasing physician reimbursement from Medicare is beginning to limit Medicare beneficiary access to specialists such as orthopedics. That bodes poorly for older Americans, as demand for joint replacement procedures has been projected to surpass 1.5 million annually by 2030, compared with about 1 million prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. It's hard to imagine surgeons agreeing to keep working, let alone join the profession, at pay rates below those currently earned by Taco Bell cashiers. I agree: "Something has to give" Physicians are suffering under our current Medicare system as reimbursement rates have plummeted by about 30 percent since 2001, adjusted for inflation. Meanwhile, the cost of keeping independent practices open continues to soar. Congress must act now to stop Medicare cuts https://lnkd.in/eMuyiWAS https://lnkd.in/eaj_veyi #decreasingreimbursement, #hipreplacement, #accesstohealthcare, #medicarebeneficiary

Chief Operating Officer & Registered Nurse | Direct Primary Care Advocate | Driving Healthcare Excellence
People (or businesses) should not go broke because of the cost of healthcare. Solstice Health recently did a surgery for a patient and the total cost all in was $18,723.00. Now, this is one of our most expensive surgeries because there was an implant involved that was expensive. This cost included everything for surgery, the staff, anesthesiologist, supplies, facility fees, etc. A local healthcare system wanted $58,243.00 for JUST the surgeon portion! This doesn’t include anesthesia, facility fees, the implant, supplies. Remember, there are other options. Employers/business owners, we are here to provide high quality care for your employees and save YOU money!

Outlining practical ways to improve #patientaccess through increased use of #nursepractitioners, Mayfield’s Jody Beckington, DNP, APRN, ACNP-BC presented this past weekend in Salt Lake City to the AANN: American Association of Neuroscience Nurses. Launching nurse practitioner spine clinics at our patient offices has led to more effective and efficient treatment, either through conservative measures or surgery. Meet the Mayfield care teams that are improving both the #patientexperience and #patientoutcomes. https://lnkd.in/guNifRk7 #spinecare #backpain #independentpractice
