Happy 4th Be the Difference® Day!
Yesterday our Contract Manufacturing team swapped their laptops for gardening tools, paint brushes, buckets, and sponges!
Be The Difference Day® is a thirteen-year-old tradition, originating in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, by PDI and PDI Healthcare. It is the opportunity to dedicate a day to giving back to its local communities and creating new memories with our colleagues!

What difference can you make on walks this weekend?
Join 26,000 dog owners picking up a couple of pieces of litter on walks to protect animals, communities and our precious environment. It only takes a minute but makes a huge impact - 38 million pieces of litter every year, a few pieces at a time.
The truly amazing thing is how great it feels to do something so simple that has an immediate and very visible difference. On #mentalhealthawareness week, why not give it a try and see....

Hey neighbours!
In this video, I’m trying something a bit different. Instead of my usual time-lapse videos, I’m recording in the moment while I spray weeds with my weed sprayer. 🎥🌱
I thought it would be fun to experiment with more real-time content to give you a better look at how I tackle tasks.
💚 Always Donation-Based:
Since the beginning, we've operated on a donation basis. While we now recommend a price, we aim to work within individuals' budgets. To scale up and maintain our ethos, we've also introduced volunteer work hours to ensure we can fairly pay our Community Helpers. If we end up working with each other, you'll get a detailed explanation about what this means. It's not just about the tasks; it's about building connections, spreading love, and creating a positive ripple effect in the community. 🌟
If you are in Ipswich or the surrounding areas and would like some help with any gardening/pressure washing, painting/decorating, cleaning, ironing, dog walking, furniture/flatpack assembly, or anything else in our skill set - drop us a line. If, at the end of the task, you don’t think we've done a great job, no expectation of payment at all.
Thank you,

For those of you who don't know the journey so far:
Just over a year ago at 22, I left night shifts at the warehouse, penniless but eager to impact my community. Starting with free bin cleanings, I ventured into gardening armed with bare hands and a plastic bag, receiving generous support from neighbours. The journey expanded my skills to gardening, pressure washing, painting, video editing, gutter clearing, etc. Neighbours even provided ladders for gutter work. Progressing from walking to an electric bike and a double child trailer, my unconventional self-employment, though without a van, has let me give back and make a living in unexpected ways. 🌱🚴♂️ Now, with so much interest, we're expanding our team to continue providing the same great service to more people!
A few weeks ago, our Managing Director Barry Osborn visited the site of a new community garden in Essex to see how our support has helped to bring an important project to completion.
When we first heard about the work of Trust Links in our local community, we knew we had to get involved. Trust Links offers a range of support to adults, young people, and families in Essex who have been affected by mental health issues.
Alongside running recovery classes and social groups, the charity also manages therapeutic gardens through its Growing Together scheme – and the team needed our help to create a safe, multi-functional outdoor space to support the launch of a new programme in Basildon.
A couple of months ago, we gifted an electric cooker and dishwasher for use in their newest garden’s onsite kitchen. We’re delighted to announce that these appliances are now in situ and fully operational, and helping Trust Links’ volunteers to deliver teas, coffees, and hot meals to everyone who is enjoying the facilities.

We imagine a world where spaces around homes are effectively converted into forest gardens that will produce food for humans while providing habitat and food for local flora and fauna. Recently we changed our strategy to achieve that. Currently, we are focusing on children creating gardens around their homes. We hope to slowly bring the whole family on board to make and maintain these gardens.
We already see the reflection of that strategy working in Ankan’s family. During our last weekend visit to Ankan’s family, his father wanted to create a garden on abandoned land. The idea came from Ankan’s uncle, who also watched our work. We went to inspect the patch of land. It comes under very little rainfed lowland that remains in the village. This was ideal for rice cultivation. But thanks to the irregular rain in the last couple of years, cultivating rice does not make much sense. When most land around it started converting the land into acacia plantations for fetching money by selling timber, Ankan’s family was considering an alternative.
We have been sincere, saying we might be unable to help generate income from the land. IndeedWe can work towards transforming the ground in a way that the market dependence of the family on vegetables reduces significantly in the next couple of months. We often forget saving money on our daily expenses is also a form of income. 😊 The family seemed to understand that and agreed to it. We will start preparing the land by the end of October when the sogginess in the soil is gone. In the meantime, we are slowly considering how to design the garden.
It makes us very happy, and the whole family slowly gets involved. The family already had the intention; it’s our work Ankan gave a nudge what they needed. We are confident this early group of adopters will bring more families on board as we progress.
If you identify without cause: you can invest with us in many ways: procuring seeds and plants, designing gardening, and other activities with children. You can also invest your time and energy in raising funds which will be used to employ local youth to do experiments on how we can make our project partially self-sustaining and create a local economy.
P.S: In the picture, you see Ankan standing with his grandmother, sister, and father.
With lots of love,
Team bon
Over the years of managing the Community Integration Program (055), I've worked on developing efficient and creative tools to support decision-making. Here's one tool called the Activity Menu, which uses plain language and images to build a schedule based on the participant's wants and needs in the program. The Activity Menu is typically paired with a person-centered tool called a Decision-Making Profile that helps us deliver information in five steps as service providers. Together, these tools will ultimately support the participant in enrolling in gardening, ymca, college, volunteering, ect.
Decision-Making Profile
How I like to get information
How to present choices to me
Ways you can help me understand
When is the best time for me to make decisions?
When is a bad time for me to make decisions?
The start of our new temperate rainforest in the hyper-oceanic climate zone at the heart of Exmoor and part of an extensive nature based solution to slow the progress of water into the River Barle.
Thank you to everyone who came along to help plant trees for Kings Wood. Despite physical challenges working on a steep slope, everyone dug in and we planted 1000 trees – including oak and birch.
To see progress so far - walk the lovely footpath from Simonsbath to Cow Castle.
