Oman's new decree paints a picture of Oman's commitment to redefining the employer-employee relationship, imparting fairness, dynamism and flexibility in the face of evolving business models. On 26 July 2023, Oman's Labour Law underwent a major transformation with the implementation of Royal Decree of Oman No. 53/2023, regarding the promulgation of the Labour Law (the "New Decree"). This new decree substantially amended the previous legal framework relating to labour affairs. The entry into force of the new decree replaced the previous Royal Decree of Oman No. 35/2003 on the promulgation of the Labour Law ("the old decree"). The effects of this change also extended to Royal Decree No. 89/2020 establishing the Ministry of Labor, determining its competencies and adopting its organizational structure.

The European Commission has published a comprehensive report assessing the impact of the 2015 Directive, which extended certain EU labour laws to include seafarers. This Directive specifically brought seafarers under the scope of laws on collective redundancies and the transfer of undertakings. The report aimed to evaluate the application of these laws across EU Member States and to determine if there were any negative consequences, such as flagging out or a decrease in the number of EU-flagged vessels and seafarers. Key findings from the report include: ● No Negative Impact: Fears that the Directive would lead to flagging out or job losses have proven to be unfounded. ● Stable Numbers: There has been no significant change in the number of vessels flying the flag of a Member State or in the number of seafarers. ● Implementation: All Member States have successfully implemented the Directive, ensuring enhanced protections for seafarers without negatively affecting the maritime sector. This report is a testament to the successful integration of seafarers into the broader framework of EU labour laws, providing them with the protections and rights enjoyed by other workers across the EU. Labour Relations in Trinidad and Tobago is governed by the Laws, Regulations and Judgements of the courts, mainly the Industrial Court. I have often heard lawyers who make statements like: "That is not a real court" Or "Better you go to the civil court, uou will get judgement there" This misconception has cost many workers lots of money, particularly those persons whose contracts were not renewed. Amendment to MLC Code: Regulation 1.4 on Recruitment and Placement ⦿ An important amendment has been made to the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006 regarding the recruitment and placement of seafarers. ⦿ This change aims to address issues that arose during the Covid-19 pandemic and provide better protection for seafarers in cases where their employment doesn't materialize as planned. ⦿ Information and protection: The MLC stipulates that seafarers should be informed about their rights and duties. The amendment could expand on the type of information that must be provided or introduce new protections.

Labour Law is that aspect of the law that governs the relationships that exist between and/or among the major parties in the labor industry.
