FCM Travel Sweden draws attention to a key topic worth covering on #IWD2024 - women's safety. There's no denying that there are risks involved in travelling and that women do feel a higher sense of vulnerability than their male counterparts when travelling, and this includes travelling for work. #InspireInclusion #IWD24 #Safety

#GermanDiversityDay 2024: Celebrating Inclusion in the Workplace ✨ Today, we proudly participate in German Diversity Day, an initiative by @Charta der Vielfalt e. V. This day is all about promoting diversity and inclusion in organizations across Germany – and for us also across all of our entities. 🌍 🤝Our contribution: At DKV Mobility, we recognize that unconscious biases can be significant barriers to fostering diversity within our company. These biases influence our decisions and daily work life. That’s why we organized several Unconscious Bias Trainings for our employees and leaders throughout the year- one of them being today! 🌈 365 Days of Diversity While German Diversity Day is a special occasion, we believe in living diversity every single day. Our commitment extends beyond this event, and we’re proud to champion diversity, regardless of gender, nationality, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or ethnicity. Join us and celebrate diversity everyday: https://ow.ly/xrIu50RXS8Z #YouDriveWeCare #Mobility #Diversity #Inclusion

Thanks for the colorful reminder Gabriela. Unfortunately this is not only true for Swiss trains... As someone deeply committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace, I wanted to share my thoughts on why Gender Equality Matters: Gender diversity isn’t just about fairness; it’s a strategic imperative for any organization. When we create an environment where everyone has equal opportunities, we unlock untapped potential, drive innovation, and enhance overall performance. As leaders, we have a responsibility to champion gender equality and dismantle barriers that persist. The Reality: Despite progress, gender disparities persist across industries and at all levels. Women continue to face challenges in terms of representation, pay equity, and career advancement. It’s time to accelerate change and create a more equitable landscape. What We Can Do: - Challenge Biases: Let’s actively challenge unconscious biases that affect hiring, promotions, and decision-making. Encourage fair evaluations based on merit, not gender. - Support Mentorship and Sponsorship: Let’s foster mentorship programs and sponsor emerging talent, especially women. A strong network can make a significant difference. - Transparent Pay Practices: Transparency around pay scales and benefits is crucial. Let’s ensure that compensation is fair and aligned with skills and experience. - Promote Inclusive Leadership: Encourage diverse voices at the leadership table. Inclusion isn’t just about numbers; it’s about amplifying diverse perspectives. Our Collective Impact: By taking deliberate actions, we can create a ripple effect. Let’s engage in conversations, share best practices, and hold ourselves accountable. Together, we can build a workplace where everyone thrives. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this critical issue. Feel free to connect, and let’s continue the dialogue. Remember, advocating for gender equality is a journey, and every small step counts. 🌟🤝
🚆 On the Right Track? First-Class Swiss Trains and the Gender Gap If you step onto a Swiss train, and head for the first-class section, you expect a bit of luxury, maybe a quiet moment before the rush of the day. Do you know wat you also find? A crowd of men in dark suits, as if there’s a “business conference” on rails. This morning, while traveling with my Finnish friend Saara from Bern to Zurich, she jokingly asked me “Are we in the Men-Only car of the train🚃?”. We laughed it off until we realized, it wasn’t a joke – we really were the only women around. I’ve been aware of this phenomenon for quite some time. Here’s the kicker, this isn’t just an isolated observation – it’s a reality backed by numbers; Alliance SwissPass lays it out clear as day: only 37% of first-class rail passes are held by women. Even in the air, flying business class, it's mostly the same picture. Approximately 33% of business travelers on planes are women (1 in 3 passengers). Why such a gap? Some say it's a reflection of the glass ceiling in the business world. But isn’t it more than that? This morning, as I sit here in my bright yellow jacket (talk about standing out!), I can't help but wonder – in the grand timeline of progress, where are we exactly? These might be small signs, easy to miss if you're not looking, but they whisper stories of diversity and equality with no seat at the table. Let's do more than just ride along. I am sure we are ignoring disparities in boardrooms and places where decision matter. Drop me a comment or DM about it if you've noticed this or other disparities. #GenderEquality #DiversityAndInclusion #BusinessClass

Pink Seats for Women! Amidst severe women atrocities going on, IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd) initiative made my day. They have introduced a new seat selection feature aimed at enhancing the comfort and safety of female passengers. Here are two unique points about this initiative which you must know: 1. Gender-based seating option: IndiGo now allows women to view the gender of potential seatmates during the web check-in process. Female travelers can select seats next to other women, marked with pink icons, ensuring they have the option to avoid sitting beside male strangers. 2. Industry-first initiative: This is the first time an airline has implemented such a feature, marking a significant step in prioritizing gender-specific safety in air travel. This initiative addresses growing concerns over in-flight safety for women, particularly solo travelers. This measure is expected to reduce anxiety and improve the overall travel experience for female passengers by giving them more control over their seating arrangements. Moreover, this feature is currently in a pilot phase, and its impact on the industry will be closely watched as per the company’s representative. However, though this aligns with IndiGo's "#GirlPower ethos," the policy has sparked debate regarding potential gender discrimination. I do not see any negative aspect in this initiative though and would strongly urge other airline companies to do the same. I would love to know your views on it in the comment section 🔻 Article Link: https://lnkd.in/gbeTbJjE Picture Credit: @tatvaindia on Instagram

Business Developer @ Girteka - Responsible Logistics. The largest asset-based transport company in Europe. /[email protected]
What does it mean to be a #woman #truck #driver? Truck driving is still considered a profession not suited for women, which is a stereotype that is still prevalent today. According to the International Road Transport Union (IRU), the proportion of female truck drivers in most European regions is less than 3%. #However, the situation is gradually changing as more women enter the profession, and companies facing staff shortages are taking measures to attract and retain women in this sector. #Women, who have recently become truck drivers and work for Girteka Group, a Lithuanian transport group, share their experiences and what it means to be a woman behind the wheel of a truck. https://lnkd.in/dW4JZN_t

🚍 ✈️ Pink Seats and Personal Space: When Manspreading Crosses the Line Haven’t we all experienced this? You’re on a flight, and the person next to you sprawls out, taking over the armrest, leaving you to awkwardly tuck yourself into a smaller space. It’s uncomfortable, frustrating, and all too familiar. This everyday scenario mirrors a larger issue—manspreading—that extends beyond just personal discomfort. I recently read an article in The Indian Express about IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd)'s "pink seats" on its airplanes—a measure supposedly aimed at ensuring women’s safety. But it made me reflect: does a pink seat truly create space for women, or does it just put them in their place without addressing the deeper issue of respect?🤔 This thought became even more relevant during a sexual harassment complaint I handled as an external member of an Internal Committee (IC). The case involved a female employee who felt harassed by a male coworker who manspread on the company cab oblivious to verbal and non-verbal cues of discomfort. For those unfamiliar, manspreading is when someone—typically a man—sits with their legs spread wide, encroaching on the space of others. The term gained traction as a way to describe this often unconscious assertion of dominance in public and shared spaces. What was particularly troubling was how divided the committee was on the issue. Some members labeled the complainant as "over-sensitive," while others were entirely unaware of what manspreading even meant. It became clear that this lack of awareness was not just about manspreading, but about normalising the nuances of harassment itself. When we discussed the incident further, a few of us shared our own experiences with manspreading, particularly in settings like airplanes or public transport - The discomfort felt as one shrinks in their seat, desperately trying to not make physical contact while the person sitting next to us unapologetically invades our space. Manspreading might seem trivial to some, but when it consistently infringes on the comfort and dignity of others, it crosses the line. This isn’t just about the physical space someone occupies—it’s about the message it sends, the discomfort it causes, and the respect that’s lacking. Symbolic measures like pink seats can only go so far. Real change comes from understanding and addressing the behaviours that make shared spaces uncomfortable for others. Forcing women into a 'pink seat' is just a superficial gesture, ignoring the deeper need for respect and understanding. Let’s move beyond superficial solutions and work towards a culture of genuine respect where everyone’s comfort and dignity are upheld. #WorkplaceRespect #SexualHarassment #Manspreading #SafetyAndDignity #InclusiveCulture
