I’m graduating here at Full Sail University in 3 weeks and wanted to post a project that I’m very proud of.
A few months ago Heart of Florida United Way proposed the question, "How can we increase donations for relief efforts in Heart of Florida?" I answered with the solution of a 3D Virtual fundraising tour highlighting the damages and loss of significant hurricanes around Florida. The aim is to motivate increased contributions by giving donors a virtual yet tangible sense of the devastation and the urgent need for aid.
Experiencing a disaster firsthand is entirely different from seeing it online. This difference is what I aim to convey through this fundraising campaign. In my time with the Florida National Guard, I've seen the devastating impact of hurricanes up close. It's a raw and stark reality that thousands face each year. With this interactive campaign, I wanted donors to understand where their contributions go and how they genuinely make a difference. Every donation helps affected individuals rebuild, recover, and regain their footing after these devastating storms.
The 3D tour was crafted utilizing the open-source software, Cesium. I used my personal drone to capture roughly 250 aerial images of Full Sail. These images were then transformed into a rough 3D model (I’m no 3d artist) of the campus using MetaShape.ai, another free software, through the process of AI photogrammetry. Cesium offered a seamless platform to upload the 3D models and allowed me to craft a detailed presentation. This immersive experience provides an in-depth visual exploration of my school, emphasizing specific details and offering a unique, interactive perspective.
The goal would be to use this same process to highlight hurricanes' devastation and show real interactive experiences for anyone to donate to the relief effort. Instead of 3D models of my campus, create 3D models of the panhandle or the devastation in Fort Myers last year from Hurricane Ian.
The University of Tokoyo is doing this(https://lnkd.in/eXGN9gUu); they’re using cesium as a form of journalism, highlighting the damages of the Ukraine war. Attached (https://lnkd.in/ebbGqpqh) are the before and after the bombing of the Mariupol Drama Theater in Ukraine. This is the emotional trigger I aim to replicate for southern Florida and national natural disasters.
I've attached my virtual presentation of Full Sail University. I created this at ZERO cost; imagine what could be done with a dedicated team. And here is the pitch, https://lnkd.in/eNctkCkA
Would love to hear thoughts on this.
