Earlier this summer, our Interns were able to visit our 1.2 million square-foot Food City Distribution Center in Abingdon, VA. With five warehouses, Transportation Department, and Misty Mountain Watering Plant, our all-in-one logistical operations that store, pick, pack, and ship orders daily to over 150 retail locations across five states truly gave our Interns a look into the processes of ensuring we are able to "Run the Best Store In Town!"

The definition of Servant Leader.
For Katie Branch, opening the first Chick-fil-A in her hometown of Pine Bluff, Arkansas was a dream come true. Beginning her career in the Information Technology industry, Katie discovered her passion for mentoring others by working with young professionals and leading a program of interns and apprentices. This experience inspired her to reevaluate her career path and led her to apply to own and operate her own Chick-fil-A restaurant. Today, Katie pours into 100 full- and part-time Team Members in her restaurant – helping others see their own potential. “I love you guys, I care about your future,” Katie says to her Team Members, similar words she used to encourage interns through her 20-year IT career.

So happy to have been able to coordinate this experience for our Cohort 3 interns! It’s such an integral element of professional growth in an organization, to be able to experience and to understand the processes and runnings of every single department and section of the business. Only then can one make informed decisions. #professionalgrowth #HR #MassyStoresTrinidad #MSTT

Save time Wednesday, July 26th at 11 am, and join us online for our Zero Hunger Intern presentations. The interns, winding down their ten-week internships, will share research focused on a hunger-related issue of their choice. Interns analyze the problem and present recommendations for practical solutions. Join Garreth Bartholomew, who was placed with Alive & Thrive and Fawad Mohammadi, who was placed with ACDI/VOCA as they explore “Cultural Competency within Food Accessibility in the New South. We are exploring the concept of ‘cultural competency’ in food – what does it mean, what does it look like, how is has food policy like post-pandemic child nutrition programs integrated the concept. Drawing on our experiences given our internships and interviews within our organizations on how complicated culturally appropriate food is on an international nutrition scale. We then examine the issue of culturally appropriate food accessibility domestically, focusing on the South, where diversity in food choices is often limited in spaces such as campus dining halls and food pantries. We discuss efforts to make culturally relevant and appropriate food accessible to students and pantry clients, using case studies such as the potential and pitfalls of integrating Halal food in these spaces.” Tap the link and we'll see you there! https://lnkd.in/eqDwVePB #zerohungerinterns #zerohungeracademy #endhunger #foodinsecurity

If you're a foodie working an office job and looking for a career change, have you considered becoming a cheese professional? Whole Foods Market is looking to improve on the grocery industry’s typical high-turnover workforce through its career development initiatives, per Axios. In September, CEO Jason Buechel said Whole Foods’ previous year saw 11k employee promotions, with an expanding roster of paid apprenticeship programs playing a key role in their internal development model. The on-the-job training programs are intensive, sometimes yearslong paths for Whole Foods employees, but there’s a prize at the end: expert-level certification and expanded growth opportunities. It’s not a hard bargain for employees; for instance, would you rather pay ~$4k for an eight-month meat-cutting certification, or get paid while you complete that education?
