For me, one of the more interesting points of the article is that along with the new development at Hollywood Park, is the revitalization of Inglewood's downtown. Highlighting the need for an all encompassing plan so as to not detract from the City's legacy.

These are 3 things everyone should get to experience, and there’s one place that has it all! What are those three things? History, Community, and Lifestyle! The place? The Wilmore Neighborhood! Wilmore as we know it today, was established in 1914 when FC Abbott bought 335 acres of farmland owned by Mr. Wilson and Mr. Moore; the area was named after them as “Wil-More”.  Historic Character: It is one of Charlotte's oldest neighborhoods. Fun fact: Prior to the 19th Century, two of Charlotte’s gold mines were located in Wilmore. Location: Wilmore is situated just south west of Uptown Charlotte and even includes a portion of the SouthEnd making it a convenient and desirable neighborhood for those who work in the city center. Revitalization: Over the years, the neighborhood has seen significant revitalization efforts, with many homes being renovated and restored, contributing to the neighborhood's appeal. Walkability: Wilmore is a walkable neighborhood with tree-lined streets and sidewalks, making it easy for residents to explore the area on foot. Parks and Green Spaces: Wilmore is home to several parks and green spaces, including Revolution Park, Wilmore Park, and Abbott Park which offers ball fields, playground, picnic areas, and walking paths. Community Events: The neighborhood hosts various community events throughout the year, such as neighborhood cleanups, social gatherings, and holiday celebrations. Local Businesses: Wilmore has a mix of local businesses, including restaurants, cafes, and shops, giving the neighborhood a unique and vibrant character. Some of these great popular spots include Pasta Provisions, The Horseshoe, Yume, Craft Tasting Room, Seoul Food Meat Company...to name a few. Thursday Thread ~ RENO-vation, Redefining a Downtown with Boundaries. Within these boundaries lay 40 great redevelopment sites that could transform the downtown Reno experience from soulless void to vibrant existence! Great downtowns require 3 things. diversity, cultural Hub, and accessibility.  I think that changing our boundaries with a tighter focus can help increase downtown diversity which can drive the culture shift. I’m going to venture a guess that based on size, Downtown Reno could be the least densely populated Downtown per capita in the US, or somewhere near the bottom %. Why does that matter? Population drives diversity. For decades now, our downtown has attempted to function on its day time populations who are encourage to never leave their resort property. Because there isn’t a full-time demographic, we’re lacking the diverse set of small businesses that exist to serve them and other visitors that are pulled in. New boundaries and focus could set in motion the shift away from gaming defining our downtown experience, and allow it to serve how it was intended, providing entertainment. The move South starts by passing under the famous Reno Arch, Virginia Street is the major artery, follow the train tracks west to Keystone, and east the ballpark, cause every great downtown has a stadium. From Virginia street, cross the river to California Street, where you head East to Arlington and West to Holcomb Ave. This 300 Acre RENO-Vation area should capture or citizens and outsiders full attention. Opportunities for market rate residential housing, mixed use commercial and retail along with space for cultural activities with easy access points are abundant. Anchored by the Reno City Center formerly known as Harrah’s, on its north end. Virginia St South offers numerous redevelopment opportunities all the way to the Believe Plaza.  Our beautiful Truckee river which provides open, nature scape and a Wingfield Park for festivals and events. California Street as the South anchor, leading to midtown and the up a coming neighborhoods to the east in the Wells District. As citizens and business owners in this community, we need to unite to be empowered to make these changes, urge elected’s to sharpen their focus, voice our concerns and ideas and hold our government officials to account. #RENOvation
