In N.C. House District 27, this would mean an average increase of 40% in homeowners insurance costs (40.8% increase in Halifax & Northampton counties and 39.3% in Warren). In August, my opponent voted to override Governor Roy Cooper's veto of a bill that delays updating our state's building code until 2031. Some parts of our code date all the way back to 2009. This delay will increase costs for homeowners in insurance and energy efficiency, make their homes vulnerable to storms and floods, and may make some communities ineligible for FEMA aid following natural disasters. Is this who we in House District 27 want representing us in Raleigh? A Democrat who votes with Republicans to increase the energy and insurance costs of our homes? #ncpol #achoiceforchange #rodneytoraleigh #pierce4nchouse #election2024 https://lnkd.in/e8jksazW

People continue to choose Florida as their residence despite the Sunshine State facing significant challenges. These challenges include excessive litigation, hurricanes, and climate change, resulting in substantial increases in insurance premiums. The rapid population growth in coastal areas further escalates the risk, causing losses from natural disasters to be disproportionately higher in these regions. https://bit.ly/46w9k4i #onlyindade #homeownersinsurancesouthflorida #sunshinestate #climatechange

What is required is a national retrofit of our residential and commercial buildings/assets in order to reduce natural hazard risks/damages and also have reasonable insurance rates. The new buildings are not the issue, it is the millions of older pre-building codes and flood map buildings. Building retrofits reduce risk/damages, preserve the asset values and vital property taxes and create jobs in all the trades. Climate change adaptation of our buildings in neither inexpensive nor is it easy, but is essential.

#citizens #floridainsurance #insurancerates #depopulation 184,000 policies is the universe that these companies will pick from and in reality they will not be taking that many. I wonder how many of these are in coastal areas and are they all being assumed at Citizens rates plus 20% so that they must accept the offer and be kicked out of Citizens. This coupled with the flood insurance requirement will further drive premium increases for all homeowners in Florida
