Technology and engineering powerhouse MAIRE has announced that its subsidiary, KT - Kinetics Technology, has been awarded an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract by HOLBORN Europa Raffinerie GmbH. This contract involves developing a state-of-the-art hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) complex within the existing Holborn refinery in Hamburg, Germany, dedicated to producing renewable diesel (RD) and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Alessandro Bernini, CEO of MAIRE Group, highlighted the significance of this achievement: “This important success confirms the pivotal role of MAIRE Group in the energy transition, and its ability to take on the decarbonisation challenges in hard-to-abate sectors, by leveraging on its unparalleled technological portfolio and know how integrated by world-class engineering and execution capabilities.” The project will capitalize on KT's execution prowess and NextChem’s advanced technological solutions. NextChem, also a subsidiary of MAIRE, specializes in sustainable process design, enhancing the project’s innovation and environmental impact. Upon completion, the plant will produce approximately 220,000 tons of RD and SAF annually. The production will utilize waste and residues feedstocks, biomasses, agribusiness industry residues, and low carbon hydrogen. This ambitious project, estimated at $400 million, is set to become operational by early 2027. ***The Breogan project, promoted by P2X-Europe GmbH & Co. KG and Greenalia S.A., declared a *PRIORITY BUSINESS INITIATIVE (PBI)* by the Xunta de Galicia*** - Project Bregoan, involving an investment of more than 200 million €, was declared a Priority Business Initiative by the Xunta de Galicia for the alignment with the government’s strategy and sustainability goals. - This initiative foresees the start-up of a Power-to-Liquid (PtL) plant aimed at manufacturing eFuels for aviation in Galicia, Spain. - The PBI award promises an agile permitting process guaranteeing legal and environmental security. As it will presumably reduce the time for administrative processing for the start-up of this facility by half, the launch of production is envisaged for 2027.   - The PtL project will capture 70,000 t/a of biogenic CO2 from Greenalia's biomass plant and produce 11,000 t/a of green hydrogen from renewable sources. These feedstocks shall produce around 20,000 t/a of synthetic crude in Curtis-Teixeiro, ready to be refined into eFuels (eSAF and eDiesel) and synthetic waxes, to serve the decarbonisation of both, the aviation and transport industry, and the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. Read the full text here: https://brnw.ch/21wGbQG The year 2024 begins with a change in leadership. Our CEO Olaf von Lehmden welcomes Maurice Markerink and Jakob Falkenstein to their new positions. Together with CTO Jürgen Tenbrink, they will form the executive management team of plant construction starting April 2024. At the same time, we extend our gratitude to Lars von Lehmden and Jörg Fischer for their support in our newly established Advisory Board. In 2023, this mid-sized international company posted positive, healthy growth in the plant engineering segment, with good prospects offered here by both France and the USA. “There are good opportunities for us in Germany again, too, triggered by global efforts to tackle climate change and secure sustainable supplies of energy,” adds CFO Jörg Fischer. Although domestic policymaking has a fickle streak, however. Another highlight: EnviTec Bioenergie Güstrow GmbH is setting new standards with Germany's largest integrated bio-LNG plant with CO2 liquefaction, aiming to transition from trial operation to regular operation in 2024. 2023 displayed impressive results in the service segment with a 5.9% increase in revenue and a 24.5% increase in total output in the first half of the business year. This trend is attributable to inventory build-up through new repowering and conversion projects. In the words of our Chairman of the Board, Olaf von Lehmden: „“This is why our mood is confident as we start the new financial year, and we also intend to explore further options for growth for our Group. That said, we will not be able to replicate the performance we achieved in ’23, which was an exceptional year.“ The reason is one-time effects in 2023 and falling quota prices.
