For the first time, the U.S. Department of Energy and SAMPE North America are pleased to announce a co-sponsored workshop at the upcoming SAMPE Conference and Expo, May 20 – 23, in Long Beach, California.    The topic, “Advanced Materials for Hydrogen Infrastructure Technologies Workshop,” will be held on 𝗪𝗲𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟮𝗻𝗱, and includes the following objectives: ◦ 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 the broader materials and process engineering community using fiber-reinforced composites in hydrogen infrastructure applications.  ◦ 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 and opportunities to utilize large-scale advanced materials in hydrogen infrastructure applications.  ◦ 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗥&𝗗 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 that can reduce costs and improve the performance of advanced materials used in hydrogen infrastructure components. My employers are very keen on renewables - new Renewable Energy Engineering degrees starting in the autumn; impressive rise up the People & Planet charts this year; collaborations with the Net Zero Technology Centre; et cetera - but maintaining existing systems is important too, while we transition. Well-maintained and more predictable systems are cheaper to run and less environmentally damaging than unreliable ones. Plus if we want to use the oil & gas kit for other things post-transition (e.g. CO2 storage, which this paper weighs in on) we're going to want lots of data for planning that.

Excited to announce the publication of our latest article on the techno-economics of implementing thermal regulation in algae raceway ponds, utilizing ground heat, in Sustainable Energy Technologies and Assessments. This innovative approach is able to maintain culture temperatures closer to strain optima by both summer cooling and winter heating, improving productivities in a sustainable and cost-effective way. A new publication published by our colleagues investigates the efficiency potential of caloric cooling systems and heat pumps. In their article “On the efficiency of caloric materials in direct comparison with exergetic grades of compressors” (https://lnkd.in/eW2k5UBE), the authors (amongst them Jürgen Wöllenstein, Olaf Schäfer-Welsen, Kilian Bartholomé) develop a method that compares the potential efficiency of caloric cooling systems with vapor compression cooling systems, considering the isentropic efficiency of compressors on the one hand and a material-based figure of merit for caloric systems, on the other. Very pleased to share our recent review, published in Advanced Energy Materials, regarding the dual use of SAM molecules in perovskite solar cells. In this comprehensive overview, we outline the key components of SAM molecules, the varied deposition methods employed, the diverse roles they play in PSCs, as well as their wide applications as charge transport materials and interfacial modulators. Additionally, we propose design principles for SAM molecules based on our understanding, and highlight the remaining challenges in this field. We hope that our review will inspire the future exploration and contribute to a deeper understanding of SAM materials. https://lnkd.in/dwYMes-R
