Sad but not surprising. This will happen more and more, not just with Sinclair. Overall linear tv viewership is declining. Soon, there just won’t be enough viewers to support four newsrooms in any given market. When you poll journalism students, less than half watch local news. That’s incredible considering that’s the industry they want to go into. I think this is just the beginning and we start to see the #3 & #4 rated newsrooms in a lot of markets start to shut down or consolidate.
I fail to see how this is a good move for the viewers of the Tulsa market, and Oklahoma as a whole. Seems like more opportunity for the three affils that will still have full stations in Tulsa. There are also many gaps across the state, like the southestern corner, which lack coverage and fall into the Tulsa DMA. Will we see more moves like this coming from Sinclair-owned stations? https://lnkd.in/g6-bgtSC

Check this out to get to know more about Dallas Business Journal Editor in Chief Will Anderson and where we're headed.
I'm a big fan of the Dallas Business Journal, partly because we partner with them. We're their television partner, mainly because they know what they're doing and do it right. While many newspapers are closing across the country, their circulation is declining. Every single year the DBJ circulation increases a little bit. One of the reasons for that is my next guest, Will Anderson, the Editor in Chief of the Dallas Business Journal.

Today, kicking off the America's Public Television Stations Summit, we heard from outgoing President and CEO Patrick Butler. His speech offered insights from the past, wisdom for the present, and a glimpse to the future, reminding all of us why we do what we do. I spent a lot of time re-reading the full speech, trying to decide which quote to share here with you all. I have landed on one, but the entire speech is filled to the brim with meaning and I encourage everyone to read it in full. For now, here are some of his words of inspiration that have most stuck with me: “I’m sure many people in this room have a similar story to tell about their own humble origins in broadcasting and their ambitions to channel its power for good, perhaps even for salvation. To think that we could dream such dreams, and make them come true, is to understand just how special our country is, and how honored we are to serve it. Even when it’s hard. Especially when it’s hard. In a nation divided, we build community. To bitter debate, we bring civility. To an anxious people, we provide safety. To a coarsening society, we offer culture. Where intolerance looms, we embrace diversity. To those who have little, we impart the priceless gift of education. In the darkness of disinformation, we shine the liberating light of truth.” https://lnkd.in/gDehYrje
