Every once and a while, I Google "Hayward, CA" and scroll down to see the top questions people are asking the search engine. Let's go through a quick run down of the common questions and I'll give you some answers. (Hint - they all have to do with stores opening at Merlone Geier Partners & Merlone Geier Management Hayward Retail Center on Mission Blvd). TOP GOOGLE QUESTIONS ABOUT HAYWARD, CA: 1. Is Sprouts Farmers Market coming to Hayward? Answer: YES! This specialty grocery story is under construction in the former K-Mart center on South Mission Boulevard. It should be open by late Fall. 2. Is In-N-Out Burger coming to Hayward? ANSWER: YES! The first In-N-Out burger in to town is under construction in the former K-Mart center! It should open this summer. 3. Wawa is traveling south. Philadelphia's famed convenience stores are expanding into the Southern and Midwestern states. According to Bloomberg, the renowned convenience-store business associated with Philadelphia and Jersey pride aims to add 280 new locations in the South and Midwest. The Wawa Factor Many people like eating Wawa's contentious pizza or Built-to-Order hoagies, often using the garbage cans as improvised tables. But don't be fooled—Wawa's restrooms are famously clean. Since its inception in 1964 by the rich Wood family, Wawa has become a cult favorite among Philadelphians, South Jerseyites, and inhabitants of the mid-Atlantic states and Florida. Now, the Woods are hoping that visitors from North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and Indiana would rush to its doors as quickly as Rocky did up those stairs. New Whole Foods opened in Jersey City, NJ The area is like a mini Manhattan. With 51,156 square feet of space, the Jersey City, NJ store (located on the corner of Washington Street and Columbus Drive) is slightly bigger than the average Whole Foods store — and nearly twice the size of the nearby Weehawken(NJ) location that opened in 2019. Exchange Place neighborhood, tricky parking, to combat that, there is a parking garage attached to the building with multiple levels of spots reserved for Whole Foods customers. You can park there free for 90 minutes if you spend $10 or more in the store. Whole Foods immediately becomes the preeminent grocery store in Jersey City, and the most expensive. ShopRite, Acme and Key Food are nearby downtown, Stop & Shop and Supremo are in the Heights and a CTown is situated in McGinley Square. None bring Whole Foods selection and quality to the table, but that comes with a price. While the arrival ….has been heralded by residents, it also comes at a time of great change for the city. The store is surrounded by high-rise buildings that have become more prominent throughout Jersey City. This was an ongoing concern. Improvements allow adding/linking specials to card/number. The issue has been phones, phone capabilities, households. People recommend doing from computer. Not all have computer. Online delivery orders and curbside present challenges. Order changes involve another service. Payment method card access is accessible to temporary help. Multiple “hand held” and mobile devices retain information. Cross sharing. I asked why all coupons and specials are unable to be linked to Kroger Card number, instead of selected coupons? I didn’t receive a response. I’ve noticed modifications and improvements on a monthly basis. Sometimes, improvement is reversed after a short period? Some locations, have admitted to customers, they are targeting “younger” shoppers. Other locations, intentionally, stocked and set up for families, with children. I’ve noticed, some efforts, in grocery to sell smaller portions and packaging for singles, couples and elderly. Prices were more expensive, in some cases. Same in others. Self serve, allowing personalized quantity selection, were/are difficult to manage. Remodels have been in progress for Walmart, Kroger and Meijer. Store designs and products are based on statistical, demographics captured by rewards cards and local agencies. Scan check out areas have gone through, several, revisions in “software” and processing, in recent 2 years. Sometimes, new systems were changed, again, within a short period of time.
