Hey, everyone! It's Tera Chapman here, the Master Life Coach and also the CEO of IJOT Dough, where we own the bread delivery routes for East Atlanta and Douglasville. Today, I want to share an extraordinary experience with all of you. I decided to step out of my CEO shoes for a night and take on the exciting challenge of delivering our bread and Takis to Kroger. This YouTube video takes you on a personal journey with me as I spend a night at Kroger, getting a taste of the frontline action. As the night comes to a close, we wrap up the delivery tasks. There's a sense of accomplishment knowing that we've restocked the shelves and kept the store running smoothly for the next day. I express my gratitude to the Kroger team, and they reciprocate with warm farewells. This may be a typical night for me, but it's far from ordinary. Delivering bread and Takis to Kroger is not just a job; it's a passion. It's about fostering relationships, being part of a team, and making sure our customers are delighted with our products. I started in retail at 18 years old- now turning 35 I spent almost 14 years at Walmart, moving up the ladder. Never once interviewed for a job up the climb. The challenge of working and planning such a complex company was exciting and rewarding. Never did I see myself leaving Walmart but life happens. Joining Ollies as a Store manager after needing to relocate back to Pa and again tried to climb the ladder. An Ollies Store Manager their mission is simple and clear. Plan your manifest, make room for the freight, crush it in 2 days, easy lets roll. I grew bored and moved over to District LP. Covering four states worth of stores and endless travel, this became clear I should of stayed running a store. Me sitting still and searching for internals was not my thing. Petco Store Manager- before training was over it knew it wasn’t for me. Took a jump based on the pay specifically. I knew this was not for me. As an animal lover the idea of being over animals sounded great, till you as the gm are the one cleaning the cages. Very limited hours due to volume size, with a stock price hovering under $2.00 Gabes Store Manager- Great bigger box than Ollies so time to roll again. More money so lets make the jump again. Five trucks a week, perfect lets plan some freight. If only it was that simple. Inconsistency with processes would be an understatement. I’m not sure if retail management is getting stale, or once you work for the giants of the world everything else seems less rewarding. Retail and retail management is surely changing.

Today marks 16 years with Walmart, not a normal milestone but it has been half of my life! It’s been such an amazing ride that has almost come to end quite a few times over the years, and I can’t imagine what life would be like had that happened. There are a lot of friends that I have made over the years, a lot of people that I spent time in trenches with that I no longer talk with. There are a couple of things that they have left me with though: 1.      The reason we’re here is to support a life away from here. While I’m one of the biggest customer advocates you will find, every associate has a family, school, a vacation around the corner that they show up to support. Take interest in the reason that people work alongside you. 2.      The time that we spend here can either be the worst time and moments in our day/week/month, or it can be some of the best times we’ve had. Looking back, I realize that how I show up for the day dictates how the time progresses. I spent my entire 2 years as an Assistant Manager in the store answering the question “How are you?” with “Amazing”, and while they were some of the hardest times of my career, every second was amazing. 3.      The opportunities in life (for me that is at Walmart 😊) are endless and will never cease to surprise you. Through so many unforeseen circumstances I’m in my seat today. I happened to apply for a transfer to the wrong store in Colorado when moving from Wyoming and ended up meeting my wife at that wrong store. I applied for an Assistant Manager role at one of the toughest stores in Denver not realizing how tough it would be. That store ended up piloting Walmart Online Pickup and Delivery program (shoutout GHS crew!). I rolled the dice on travelling for work and missing my best friend’s wedding (she has since forgiven me) which lead me down the path of getting my first home office role. Opportunity almost always comes in the face of change and challenges, don’t ignore them If you’re ever wondering if Walmart is a good place to work, This is That Place! Make the most of where you are at, own the role that you have, people notice and will show out for you. People are often surprised when they learn I have worked for Walmart close to 30 years and now Fortune is helping me share the WHY! The People-first and family culture was (and still is!) a magnet for me and the way I wanted to live and work! Has it been hard at times? YES! Have there been tears of frustration at times? SURE! Did I sometimes work so many hours that a 40hr / week job would have felt like part-time work? NO DOUBT! But........ Has it also been fun, fulfilling and everything I hoped it would be? YES! Have there been tears of joy when I see people grow and accomplish things that they never dreamed possible? ABSOLUTELY! At Walmart and Sam’s Club, there’s a career path for everyone.   Dasha Long’s story exhibits what’s possible with vision, commitment, and mentorship.   A Merchandise Compliance Manager at Sam’s Club in Moore, Oklahoma, Dasha shares, “I had multiple managers give me exposure throughout the company. As a committee member of Kroger's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Communications Committee, I recently had the opportunity to talk with Michele Foods' CEO and Founder, Michele Hoskins, to hear her amazing story and discuss her company's 30-year relationship with Kroger. Michele started Michele Foods in 1984 with a family recipe and the determination to succeed. The recipe, a unique syrup made from honey, cream and churned butter, was created in the 1800s by Michele’s great, great, great grandmother, America Washington, a former slave. Through trial and error, Michele persevered and built a company around this recipe. In 1993, Michele’s line of syrups came to Kroger. From the beginning, Michele knew it was a great fit. “Even then, Kroger had a great diversity program and invited me into their stores. My relationship with Kroger has been one of my best in retail since I’ve been in business. Kroger consistently kept me on the shelves even when my business was small and wasn’t doing so well.” Today, Michele’s products are available in stores throughout the Kroger enterprise across multiple banners. “Kroger is a part of my life story. My syrups have been in their stores for three decades. They embraced me, and they’ve always understood the importance of diversity and respected it.” Michele Foods recently filmed their first commercial. At the end of the commercial, Michele proudly states, “You can find us in your local Kroger.” Advancing diverse partnerships is an important focus area of Kroger's Framework for Action: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion plan. Last week, Walmart and Sam’s Club associates from all over the world gathered here in Bentonville, AR for Associate’s Week. The spirit and energy that this annual event breathes into our collective hearts as Walmart and Sam’s Club associates cannot be overstated. It is invigorating to have so many people here in our relatively small city at the heart of Walmart, USA. It’s a richly diverse gathering, not just in terms of cultures and countries represented, but also in diversity of career journeys, life experience, educational backgrounds, and so much more. This was the first year I was able to attend the Associate Celebration that wraps up the week. I saw incredible entertainment (Lizzo, anyone??). I also heard from Paris Hilton and Robert Downy, Jr. about their products available at Walmart. I enjoyed the lighthearted antics of host Peyton Manning, hearing leaders from different parts of the company talk about our future, and seeing the unique things happening at various stores around the world. What was most impactful to me though, was the message from CEO Doug McMillon as he recognized three amazing associates for their dedication and the difference they make every day. He spoke about the impact of consistent effort towards achieving goals, the importance of celebrating wins and success, and the inspiration to be found in moving targets. I really needed that message. I’m personally coming out of the most difficult year of my professional life to date. That idea of “moving targets”, for whatever reason, really clicked and resonated with me. We have been experiencing a lot of change recently in Walmart Global Tech, some of it unprecedented for many of us. It’s been a challenge to stay optimistic and seek out success in times of uncertainty. It’s so easy to lose sight of positivity when things are happening around us that we can’t control. But there are always things we can control, even in the midst of the unknown. Through that lens, moving targets are a really positive thing - an opportunity for a different way of working, a chance to discover a spark of creativity, a moment to foster new ideas. Change can stifle us with fear, or motivate us towards evolution. The rest of this year, I will be working on the latter. Here’s to an incredible remainder of FY25 at Walmart.
