Many things are common with other sectors - the key sector features are about the complexity of organizational structures (a lot of subsidiaries with different cyber maturity level), greater importance of supply chain with bigger numbers of service and product suppliers, complex IT landscapes with a mix of both old and new technologies, and of course higher risks arising from OT.

For The Hill, IST Chief Trust Officer Steven M. Kelly, CISSP and University of California, Berkeley Center for Long-Term Cybersecurity Public Interest Cybersecurity Program Director Sarah P. tackle the #cybersecurity side of the U.S.’ clean energy strategy. “Critical sectors…have long been an attractive target for threat actors who infiltrate unsecured assets directly connected to the public,” they write. “As the energy grid evolves to accommodate clean electricity generation, transmission and distribution, the cybersecurity of these distributed technologies must evolve with it.” https://lnkd.in/gw3xDtVP

The US #energy grid is experiencing an unprecedented level of government investment -- the Biden administration recently announced additional $20 billion through the Inflation Reduction Act for clean projects nationwide. Yet, there is alarmingly little focus on the #cybersecurity of this critical US infrastructure, making it a target rich environment for nation level threats from #China, #Russia and #Iran, which all have a record of targeting the US energy grid.
