Best Buy's answer to theft: Hiring Best Buy is hiring more workers to better control theft at its stores. As the retail industry faces "crisis level" shoplifting, the electronics chain is beefing up staff, including more security, and rolling out "full-service cashier lanes," CNN reports. Shrink, the industry term for product loss that encompasses theft, rose 19% in 2022, according to industry data. That has spurred retail giants including CVS and Sephora to lock up items on store shelves, frustrating customers. Best Buy's more proactive approach could do a better job averting losses, crime prevention experts say. While TVs are harder to steal than razors, Best Buy doesn't have a clear advantage over other retailers because electronics are among the industry's most-stolen items, CNN notes. #hiring #theft #securityofficer

🗣️📢 Dear Targets, Kohl’s, Walmarts, ALDIs, Home Depot, Jewel & all other stores that have self checkout 🫰🤜🤛 You are heading towards almost exclusively self-checkout now. The lady 💃 checking receipts at the exit was stopping everyone. I didn't choose to participate in that nonsense, I had already: 🛒filled my cart 🛒emptied my cart 🛒scanned the items 🛒refilled my cart and so I just skipped the exit line and left. I heard her saying 🙋🏻♀️🗣️ "umm - excuse me" as I kept walking and raised the receipt above my head, leaving the store. You can either trust me to do self-checkout, or you can put your cashiers back in place like it used to be. • I'm not interested in proving that I did your job for you. • If you want me to be a cashier with no training then that's your problem not mine. • Keep employing young people and give them job opportunities. Recently, I went to Home Depot looking for parts for a pressure washer and a hose adapter. I had to speak with nearly five associates, none of whom could help me find what I needed. Four of them seemed unsure and mentioned that the store didn't have a lot of stock. One associate understood my request but made it more complicated, ultimately telling me it wouldn't work. I was ready to give up and leave when I finally found the part I needed, and it worked perfectly. I believe companies should invest in their employees by training them thoroughly in their specialties. Instead of just hiring staff to stock shelves, give them opportunities to become knowledgeable experts. For instance, if you run a shoe store, all your employees should know about the shoes you sell. #homedepot #2cents

Attention Kohl's, Walmart, ALDI USA The Home Depot, Kroger, and all stores with self-checkout! The trend of almost exclusively self-checkout is concerning. Recently, a lady checking receipts at the exit stopped me despite having filled, emptied, and scanned my cart. I left without her approval, and she called out to me as I raised my receipt above my head. Trust us to self-checkout or put cashiers back in place like they used to be. We don't want to prove that we did your job for you. We're not cashiers, and we didn't receive any training. Let's keep employing young people and giving them job opportunities. We're not paid to scan our own shopping, and we don't receive staff discounts for working for you. These are jobs that are needed for young and old alike. So your store manager will yell at an employee in front of customers for accidentally cussing, but then turn around and do nothing about several other employees profane language even when asked to stop because of children's ears being present. Good job walmart. You guys are really setting an example of favoritism and how to not run a store. If you look at the turnover rate inside that one department it is astronomically high. It couldn't possibly be the employees that have allegations of harrassment, stalking, discrimination, or defamation of character nooooo. Those are model employees. Those specific employees can do no wrong. Can work as many hours as they want when nobody else can. Show up and clock in whenever they want even though they are associates and not managers. Those associates discriminate, harrass and bully anyone that doesn't worship them. When you try and reach out to upper management about it you just keep getting redirected. Nobody wants to do anything. Every single one of them is complacent in their jobs.

Highly skilled loss prevention professional with district and multi-unit w/ exceptional internal, ORC and audit experience
Can honestly say this is the longest period of time I have gone without having a AP / LP position. I'm told my resume is impressive along with my results with previous companies. With that said I keep losing positions to other candidates that don't have the proven record that I have. I can only assume why but this isn't the place to list those rants. So here is a question. What other positions have any of you transitioned into outside of AP / LP? So far I have applied to store manager, OPs manager, inventory control and assistant manager positions without an interview. Has retail changed that much or are they moving on from the old dogs for new tricks.
