Day 1 of the Tamale Outreach The participating school was University for Development Studies. A presentation was made by George Dwapanyin, PhD, MInstP introducing the students to the concepts of photonics and its applications. Fabian Ruf spoke to them about the fabrication of integrated circuit optical lithography - which deals with how the principles of optics and photonics are used in the manufacturing of microchips at ZEISS Group. After the introductory sessions, the students had the opportunity to not only understand the theory behind photonics but also experienced and partook in various hands-on experiments. A special thanks goes to our main sponsors and patrons: Optica, ZEISS Group, Menlo Systems, George Dwapanyin, PhD, MInstP, Fabian Ruf, Akyana Britwum, Michael Kweku Edem Donkor We also extend our gratitude to: Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, College of Science, KNUST, PHYSAG - KNUST, SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, Photonics Ghana. It was interesting to explain these concepts to some individuals who have no background in science but were still baffled at what they saw. I would not call it a challenge but a learning experience, since these are the real-world people these photonics devices are made for, and for them to understand the basic principles helps them to appreciate it better. In all, today was a great day.🎊

The amazing this about this day was that, 85% of the students we lectured are not science related but how they related to the concepts was incredible ✨🎉🎉🎉🎉

It was wonderful and inspiring, meeting fellow students from different universities with less background in physics and photonics, but they still appreciated the wonders in them and learnt that photonics is not only for science society but can also be applied in their various fields.

Is photonics for only Science based students?
