For the month of January, Edgemesh will be bringing you Metrics That Matter, a series on eCommerce data analysis necessary to properly diagnose and optimize the shopping experience on any store. To do this, the trick is to look at the entire funnel, from the moment they first appear on the site, through to purchase, as the real wins are found in all the actions that happen in between those events. To start let's take a look at the top of funnel and what matters. First impressions are crucial, much like the initial minutes of a first date. Here's a snapshot of key metrics that can help your online store charm and engage visitors from the get-go: 1️⃣ Engaged User Rate (>55%): This metric is our applause meter. High engagement means over half our visitors are exploring multiple pages and creating carts showing buying interest. This one metric can tell so much about a site or experience when sliced by different segments like source, landing page, etc. 2️⃣ Product & Category View Rates: These are indicators of how captivating our products and categories are to visitors. But just as important, these are indicators of a favorable site experience, as visitors will typically find products they are looking for via collections and then review the specific product information on the PDP. 3️⃣ New vs. Returning User Rates: It's important to understand how new and returning users are interacting at the top of the funnel, but also just understand how many users are ACTUALLY returning? And no, we're talking about someone who expired their cookies, and came back as a "new user". (We're talking unblockable 1st Party Cookies with no expiration) 🔍 Analyzing these metrics across different devices, demographics and segments can unveil invaluable insights, guiding us to tailor user experiences for better engagement and conversion.
