Kirby Salerno’s Post

Colleagues, A few pieces of exciting news… First, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve joined Lynn Fiellin, MD and Anusha Raja, MD at Playbl, Inc., a digital health education company focused on improving adolescent behavioral health outcomes at scale. UNICEF notes that “play is one of the most important ways in which children interact with the world and develop essential knowledge and skills.” At Playbl (play able), we harness the power of play to engage young people with evidence-based digital games developed at Yale School of Medicine's play2PREVENT Lab. These games are designed to build skills and knowledge on various health issues, including mental health and substance misuse. Currently, our focus is on addressing two public health epidemics affecting youth: e-cigarettes/vaping and opioid/fentanyl misuse. Stay tuned for updates on these and other critical health issues impacting young people. In the meantime, check out our games here: https://lnkd.in/eQj6cvxe and the published research on the games here: https://lnkd.in/evgCb_DE Second, I’m proud and excited to share that Playbl was awarded the top prize in the Dartmouth Innovation Accelerator for Digital Health (DIADH) pitch competition. We participated in the DIADH program, supported in part by the Dartmouth College Center for Technology & Behavioral Health and the Magnuson Center for Entrepreneurship at Dartmouth, over the past several months and benefited greatly from a host of mentors and programming on scaling digital health enterprises. Our awarded funds will go directly into our product plans to scale to thousands of schools and other youth-facing organizations in the coming years. Congratulations to all the participants in the program for their inspiring ideas and projects. Last but not least, a big thanks to Lynn Fiellin, MD for her confidence in me and willingness to bring me on board this incredibly exciting journey to make a meaningful impact in the lives of young people in the US and globally. I’m honored to be riding on the coattails of her genius. This is the second time recently that I've read about the empowerED cognitive behavioral videogame intervention for high school students. The research paper is quite interesting and I love what Playbl is doing with games behavior change. Especially around teaching new skills!
