The transition to connected and automated mobility promises a phenomenal future. It will not just revolutionise motoring by enabling a hands-free experience but deliver unprecedented safety, economic and societal benefits – and how fast we get there depends entirely on our momentum today. SMMT Connected yesterday added to that momentum with the automotive, tech, government and policy sectors discussing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Speakers representing that broad ecosystem shared their insight and, given the critical role of government, it was important the UK’s Secretary of State for Transport, Rt Hon Mark Harper MP also made clear his support for CAM – as a benefit not just to road safety but to public transport reliability, a booming UK economy, and the provision of independent mobility to people without such advantages, for example those with sight conditions and physical disabilities. Ireland's largest on-road pilot of connected vehicle technology was launched yesterday by Minister of State with Responsibility for Road Safety Jack Chambers. The pilot is being delivered by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) on behalf of the Department of Transport. It will enable operators based in the Motorway Operations Control Centre to send safety alerts - in real time - to drivers. The safety alerts will display messages relating to collisions, congestion, stationary vehicles, road works, and hazardous weather. Roughan & O'Donovan-AECOM is supporting the delivery of the pilot, under the enhancing Motorway Operations Services (eMOS) programme, which will provide TII with the systems to deliver a more efficient, flexible and responsive service to road users. TII is calling on 1,500 members of the public to participate in the pilot, which will run to the end of 2024. To join the pilot and be among the first in Ireland to experience the new driving technology, visit cits.tii.ie Learn more about the eMOS programme here: https://shorturl.at/orwDU #vehicletechnology #intelligenttransportation #tranportation #transport #engineering #technews #technology

🔙 On 16th of November 2023, AERRL, ALLRAIL, CER, EAL, EIM, ERFA, UIP, UIRR and UNIFE had endorsed a common position paper to express their support to the implementation of the centralised registration function as the European Vehicle Register (EVR) defined in the Commission Implementing Regulation 2018/1614 of 25 October 2018. With this statement, they had outlined the need to guarantee the freedom to choose a national registration entity if preferred and shared reflections about coding of the countries in which the vehicles are registered and access rights. 📢In the context of this ongoing reform, AERRL, ALLRAIL (Alliance of Passenger Rail New Entrants), CER (Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies), ERFA-European Rail Freight Association, UIC - International union of railways #UICrail#UICrail, International Union of Wagon Keepers (UIP), UIRR and UNIFE | The European Rail Supply Industry Association have defined a new common position about the use of the current European Vehicle Number and a vision of its evolution. They highlight the advantage of the existing EVN structure as a speaking number and they advocate keeping the authorisation (managed by manufacturers) and registration (managed by keepers) processes clearly separate.
