Over a 5 year period, Sun Microsystems was involved in a study* that compared the career progress of approximately 1,000 employees worldwide. These are just some of the tangible benefits of mentoring it uncovered: People involved in mentoring are SIX times more likely to be promoted than those who aren’t involved in mentoring 28% of mentors received a pay rise – compared to just 5% of managers who weren’t involved in the mentoring programme So, it was found that you’re more likely to get a promotion, a pay rise or both if you’re involved in mentoring. Promotion 101: No one cares about how well you do your current job. They care about how well you can do the NEW job. Demonstrate those skills, ahead of time. You have to prove you’re good enough BEFORE you get the role.

It is great to see The Daily Star coming up with their own online learning platform Keeron. My first impression looking at the logo was that it looked like the logo of Amazon and Amazon Web Services (AWS)! There is a lot of great minds behind Keeron. There has been a lot of EdTech startups in Bangladesh in recent years and some have even raised crazy funds in different series rounds. But the question is, is the market big enough for all the startups? What about user adoption? And the real question is, how can they fight against YouTube, the best teacher in the world? We know that YouTube has recently come up with YouTube Channel Membership options. It would be great to see how that would evolve as it would centre around communities. Thoughts?
