Ever wondered about the landscape of early-stage venture capital? Our recent guest on the 10X Capital Podcast, Jamie Rhode, CFA, shared some mind-boggling insights: out of 845 unicorns, only 3 funds have been in more than 3% at the seed stage. What does this mean? The VC world is incredibly fragmented at the seed stage. Jamie goes on to point out an interesting trend. Out of those 850-ish unicorns, 70% have had underdog founders - immigrants, women, people of color. Even more intriguing, 30% of these unicorns had at least one founder who isn't white. This isn't just a statistic, it's a testament to the power of diversity and the potential it holds. But what does this mean for venture capitalists and their limited partners? It demands a shift in perspective. It's time to think and invest differently. The success stories aren't confined to a certain demographic or a specific geographical location anymore. The underdogs are rising, and they're bringing forth a wave of innovation that's truly remarkable. Tune in to episode 72 of the 10X Capital Podcast to hear more of Jamie's insights on investing in top emerging managers. Let's broaden our horizons together.

Did you know only 3 #VC funds have been in more than 3% of unicorns at the seed stage out of 845 unicorns. Take away: Seed stage is completely fragmented. Re-sharing for those who missed it Jamie Rhode, CFA podcast on 10X Capital with David Weisburd breaking this down and explaining more on why/how Screendoor invests in EMs to get exposure to new POVs and networks and why other #LPs should too Did you also know that of these 845 unicorns: ✨ 70% have had founders = immigrants, women, POC ✨ 82% had a white founder ✨ 62% had a first or send gen immigrant founder ✨ only 21% of immigrant or female founders raised from top 10 VCs #openlp

To produce venture outcomes in this industry, we believe in being non-consensus and right, given that early-stage venture is power-law driven and it’s the tails or edges that drive returns. At Screendoor, our investment strategy is laser-focused on emerging firms and ideas that lie beyond conventional networks and boundaries recognized by the crowd. These future outliers are often found in the edges and tend to be overlooked by the untrained eye...

Every venture fund wants to see all the good deals. Here's an "Only in Silicon Valley" story! Every venture fund wants to see all the good deals. VCs do all kinds of things to see all the good deals - host private dinners, host public events, have an army attending events where founders hang, go on podcasts, tweet, make swag, wear the swag, give the swag away for free. Oh and invest in great deals, help founders, hire a small army to help founders, get on the midas list. Well, sometimes this isn't enough. You miss every great deal you never hear about. What's a VC to do? An entrepreneur built a solution: 1. Photograph everyone that goes in and out of the offices of Sequoia, Benchmark, A16Z, Founders Fund, & Kleiner Perkins. 2. Figure out who those people are. 3. If it's an founder that isn't a portfolio company -- we know they are raising money! 4. Take this list of founders raising money and sell it to all the other venture funds. Now they know about all the great deals. I heard about this service from a VC who said "we don't pay for it but we know it exists." Is this brilliant or brilliant?

How does a Venture Capitalist decide where to Invest? Is an Angel Investor or VC fund better for a first-time founder?? Venture Capital is one of the least understood yet most discussed topics among New Founders. I had a chance to Interview the incredible Brendan Rogers for the VC masterclass, who has raised over 300 million dollars in Venture funds. We discussed the workings of Venture Capital, His Journey in raising money as a founder, and his advice on selecting a path for new Founders. The masterclass tried to simplify one of the most coveted areas of building a startup. After 10 months of posting, I finally got Top Venture Capital Voice here on LinkedIn! This is a huge accomplishment because now everyone has to listen to exactly what I say. Just kidding, but I have enjoyed sharing my thoughts and engaging in some great conversation about Startups and Venture Capital. Here's the best piece of advice on taking advice: If the people who you listen to don't change your mind or perspective, or make you reconsider, they aren't giving good advice. So much of our content and newsfeeds get filled up with the echochamber of what we already believe. Seek out different opinions!
