Kibler Fowler & Cave LLP was proud to sponsor the Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice’s Celebrating Survivors Gala. The event, which celebrated LACLJ’s 50 years of service in Los Angeles, brought together over 500 community members for a fun and joyous evening supporting low-income, immigrant survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. The event raised over $545,000 to help support survivors’ access to justice, empowerment and safety. This BBC article explains that ‘to protect the privacy of children and those involved, family courts mostly operate in secret and if the women spoke openly about their cases they risk being jailed for contempt of court’. Clearly these privacy laws are in place for a reason. However, it does not take into account that they are a double-edged sword, ripe for manipulation. If a perpetrator is hell bent on continuing to abuse their ex-partner and mother of their children through the family court, then this means that the abuser has free reign to do so without fear of the goings-on leaking into the public domain, rendering the mum both voiceless and powerless. MIN exists to give a voice and empower mums like those featured who’ve experienced this type of abuse and, more often than not, have gone through the family courts. WALDRONS WEAR PURPLE DAY The Waldrons Junior Lawyers organised a Charity ‘Go Purple’ Day for Black Country Women’s Aid yesterday, the 25th of October, in support of victims and survivors of domestic abuse and interpersonal violence. We ‘declared’ yesterday a Wear Purple Day for all staff, and encouraged all staff to wear the purplest clothes that they own and also played ‘Guess the number of sweets in the jar’. All our purple people made a donation to raise funds for this great charity and our sugary sweetness winner Sophie W gave the closest guess of 137 sweets with the true figure being 153 sweets in the jar., We raised £100 which will be much appreciated by the Black Country Women’s Aid. Why the colour purple? Purple is a significant colour for campaigners against domestic abuse and violence against women and girls and has been worn by early women’s rights activists in their campaign to end domestic violence. The colour purple is meant to be a symbol of peace, courage, survival, honour, and dedication. https://lnkd.in/g5WwyMwd As a society, we have to remove the stigma around domestic violence. We need to make domestic violence an issue that we can talk about openly so that victims and survivors won’t feel judged for experiencing abuse and can come forward to get help. Together, we can help individuals, communities and businesses understand how they can take action to promote safety, respect and equality to end domestic violence. LAW IS OUR BUSINESS. IT HAS BEEN SINCE 1867. Any solicitor can say they are experienced in what they do. We go the extra mile to demonstrate our expertise. Many of our lawyers have undertaken independent assessments of their knowledge and skills. Our accreditations give you the assurance that you are dealing with a specialist. #SpecialistLawyer #ConveyancingSolicitor #PropertyInvestment #SolicitorsFirm #PersonalInjury #MedicalNegligence ⌨️ www.waldrons.co.uk 📞 01384 811 811 #BlkCountryHour

A common myth about human trafficking is that traffickers target victims they don’t know. But in reality, the vast majority of trafficking survivors know—and often love—their traffickers, who could be a family member, friend, partner, spouse, or employer. Traffickers often use romantic relationships or family love to manipulate, coerce, and exploit victims. This Valentine’s Day, one of the greatest acts of love you can take for survivors is to learn the truth behind common human trafficking myths. Understanding this crime is the best way to end it.
