Looks like a Jeep, sounds like a Porsche!
As of December 21, 2022, all electric cars in Canada are required to comply with minimum noise regulations. Automakers can determine the type of sound the vehicle makes, but the volume and pitch must allow a road user to hear if a vehicle is accelerating or decelerating. In this video, we are testing an electronic exhaust system that can replicate over 20 types of car sounds on our electric-converted Jeep. Through an app, you can select the desired vehicle type and adjust the volume and sound characteristics. The system is connected to the vehicle's CAN bus, which provides pedal and wheel data, ensuring that the sound matches the speed and actions of the vehicle. While I personally prefer the silence of the electric Jeep, having the option to select the type of sound and volume for safety reasons is a pretty cool feature.
