I watched the clip and, yes, the founders were very good at responding immediately to the questions and nailed their numbers, both historical, current year forecast and next year future growth. There were a few tense moments with the sharks highlighting founders raising money and potentially some takeaways: 1. Founders being paid a salary - bootstrapping doesn't mean being paid $0 however pulling out $300KUSD yearly when last year's revenue was $87KUSD revenue and forecasting $1million in current year had one of the sharks laughing another pointing it out as a reason to not invest 2. On $1million of forecast revenue, they will lose $1million in profit so cost burn rate is $2million as they try to scale-up with aggressive growth which can be acceptable if the scale-up turns a profit quickly 3. The following year has a forecast of $10million in revenue which is quite impressive BUT the wind got knocked out the sales projection because they will only breakeven. That is a big number for revenue without showing profit. 4. The "moat" around your business needs to protect your sales (and IP) or at least reduce the growth risk. The sharks sum it up nicely "...you are losing so much money you're not really into building a business game, you're in the raising money and getting users game...its risky...", "...the baseline model works, you want to pour gasoline on that fire...it's a pretty big bet...", "...doesn't seem like enough upside for the enormous risk...". What does this all mean? Investors can and do accept growth risk in early stage companies however there is a point where profit needs to happen once you hit higher revenue numbers. Is it $1million revenue, $2million? The answer depends on your business however, the sharks clearly drew a line in the revenue sand and you need to make profit at $10million revenue. Who would disagree with that? This again highlights the risk reward of businesses. Not sure what the raw footage looks like so kudos to video editing if it achieved this effect.

Shark Tank Envy :) Did it ever happen to you that you have been working on a start-up or a business for many years, and suddenly you see the same kind of Idea which is even doing less revenue or having less traction comes to shark tank and becomes overnight success? Well, let's admit, whoever comes to Shark Tank does get a lot of promotion worth a lot of money, and many companies actually ride on that wave and become an overnight success as well. And nothing wrong with it. They took a step to showcase their business in front of sharks on a hugely popular TV show. While you may feel a little envious, which is natural, there are many positive sides as well for you. 1. You can use the feedback given by sharks to your advantage 2. Your idea gets validation if Shark invests money in a similar start-up 3. You can keep working on making your product better away from the limelight and pressure. What do you think ?
