The main highlight of the week was the release of the minutes from the latest U.S. monetary policy meeting. The document maintained the tougher tone observed during the official communication of the decision and indicated that authorities are willing to raise interest rates further if necessary. For the coming week, the attention turns to inflation readings around the world, with the release of IPCA-15 and IGP-M in Brazil, as well as the PCE in the USA and the CPI in the Eurozone.

The power of investing to beat inflation. When inflation is at low levels it is easy to overlook the adverse effect it has on your capital and the income it produces. Whatever the current situation, the likelihood is that our bills and the price of goods will be higher in the future. Inflation is a topic that has been making headlines lately, and it’s important to understand how it can impact your investments. Simply put, inflation refers to the increase in the price of goods and services over time. It means that your money may be able to buy less in the future than it can today. The Office for National Statistics (ONS) measures inflation by tracking the prices of everyday items to calculate changes in the Consumer Prices Index (CPI). CPI rose by 6.8% in the 12 months to July 2023, which is considered to be a high rate of inflation by historical standards. Do you know that inflation can potentially impact the real value of your cash savings over the longer term too. PPI Deflation Markets got a second set of good data on inflation during the week in the form of lower Producer Price Index (PPI) results, which showed May in deflationary territory at -0.2%, lowering the annual rate to 2.2%. Core PPI was flat for the month and 3.2% annually. PPI is a leading indicator for consumer inflation, so if the trend continues, consumer prices should post similar declines in the coming months. Target Rate: 2% The Federal Reserve FOMC "Committee" seeks to achieve maximum employment and inflation at the rate of 2 percent over the longer run. The Federal Reserve's goal is to get the inflation rate at least near 2% before it begins cutting interest rates. How many rate cuts, if any, do you think will happen before the end of 2024? #InterestRates #Inflation #Deflation #Economy
