Rep. Pat Gallagher visited one of our KenCrest Group Homes last Friday. Rep. Gallagher received a tour and discussed the DSP workforce crisis, specific staffing challenges in this location, and the overall budget ask of keeping intact Governor Shapiro’s proposed Executive Budget for I/DD services. The Representative agreed to sign off on a letter of support to House leadership outlining the Governor’s recommendations for I/DD services investment: addressing the emergency wait list for services; DSP reimbursement; and rates.

Prime Time Investigates –
The Planning Trap
I welcome the Prime Time Investigates exposure of the weaponization of the planning process by some in order to achieve financial gain. We ourselves have been the targets of vexatious objections follwed by extortionate claims from individuals threatening to make appeals or, in instances, threatening to take judicial reviews of planning decisions. I am delighted to see this issue highlighted by RTE. It is a significant obstacle, that is put in place by a minority, against the economic development of Ireland. In some cases, these claims take the form of adjoining property owners and their agents who make exorbitant claims on the basis of spurious and contrived injurious affection.
The planning process itself is a system of checks and balances designed to provide for the proper development of our society and economy. I welcome the signal of the Minister to further strengthen draft planning legislation and it is my request to the Minister that the practices detailed in tonight’s programme be taken into account and dealt with in the upcoming Planning Bill.
