The challenge that HR faces of being recognised at Board level is a subject I first started reading about almost 30 years ago, and I think one of the reasons HR still struggles with this is their failure to demonstrate impact on business performance. When Eesha Phakey is quoted in this article saying that "because HR is a function that doesn’t directly impact business revenue, smaller businesses often view HR as a luxury rather than seeing the long-term ROI,” it rather sums up the problem. Surely productivity, with it's acknowledged link to engagement and culture, is part of HR's remit? Surely leadership performance is part of HR's remit? And surely both of these have a direct impact on business performance? If HR is unable to make this connection, and to demonstrate their contribution to KPIs, I think we will be reading about this still in another 30 years. #strategichr #returnoninvestment #balancedscorecard #leadership #hgkc
