Very interesting article this by Peter Chesters. Some quite startling statistics here!
50% of the construction installer workforce is due to retire in the next 5 years 🚨 That was one of the scariest stats that I learned at The British Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom & Bathroom Installation (BiKBBI)’s excellent Annual Conference last week in London. The event taking place during #NationalApprenticeshipWeek couldn’t have been more apt, as well over half of the day’s discussion centred around how to make apprenticeships more attractive to both the workforce of tomorrow and to the businesses who will desperately require these new workers in the very near future. 'Driving industry change through collaboration' was the theme of the event. If we want to solve this oncoming crisis, we’ll need collaboration from much more than just the people who met in London last week. Better access to: • Education pathways • Government support • Incentives to drive the young to want to join this industry are all going to be vital steps to begin solving this crisis in the coming years. Read my full analysis of the day for Barbour ABI and discover more of the startling figures to come from the event below ⬇ https://lnkd.in/epa6vsWW

PROJECT UPDATE: Blue Beck House #York, 73-bed care home. We’re making excellent progress since our last update in early February. The team are now well advanced with M&E, with underfloor heating completed earlier this week on the first and second floors. The roof is on schedule for completion in April, meaning we can then start with internal finishing and fit out. We are proud to share that Blue Beck House has just achieved an ‘Excellent’ in the #ConsiderateConstructor assessment, with one of the highest scores ever recorded at Torsion! Our commitment to actively engage with the local community has played a crucial role in our ongoing success at York. Earlier this week, we had a visit from Clifton (Without) and Rawcliffe Allotments Association. Our project team proactively reached out to them and kindly offered to donate surplus building materials to help the allotment holders. It was very much appreciated! We’re also helping in other ways with several local people employed on site and learning new skills. Our joinery contractor, too, employs apprenticeships, which is another great way for young people to learn useful construction skills. Blue Beck House is an example of how a modern construction project can add value to the local community while creating much-needed care home places. At Torsion, we firmly believe that progress is measured not only by the construction itself but also by our positive impact on the people and places around us. #ConstructionProgress #BuildingExcellence #CommunityEngagement #TorsionUpdates

It’s #ConstructionMonth2024! We want to take a moment to recognize our apprentices, the journeypersons who train them, and the employers who support them. RCABC has been busy working hard to train new roofers and expand the talent pools in our sector. Our communities depend on the hard work of builders and skilled tradespeople, and it’s important to recognize the dedication and teamwork it takes to transfer skills and knowledge from one generation to the next. As governments continue to provide funding to ease the financial barriers employers face to hire and train first-year apprentices, there may never be a better time to take on an apprentice to help grow your business. We’re pleased to partner with the British Columbia Construction Association (BCCA) for Construction Month, as we highlight RCABC’s commitment to building BC’s skilled workforce.
