Despite the growing demand for #plasticpackaging, current strategies for managing waste are falling short. Each year, the world churns out 141 million tonnes of #plastic packaging. In other words, while we struggle to deal with plastic waste, landfills around the world will continue to expand. And, at least one-third of these massive amounts of waste end up leaking into our #environment. To tackle our planet’s plastic problem head-on, we must arm ourselves with knowledge. It’s essential to understand why plastic packaging is so troubling before we dive into the emerging solutions.  So let’s dive right into it ⤵

When it comes to plastic waste, there's good news and bad news. "Although efforts show progress on plastic pollution is possible, the world is 'not on course' to eliminating plastic waste and pollution," reports Flora Southey. The good news is that we have seen progress from many major companies in reducing plastic waste; this is a solvable issue. The not-so-good news is that we have much more work to do to eliminate plastic waste. While I think it's important to be realistic, it's just as important to remain hopeful about our ability to make lasting, sustainable change.
