The founder and CEO of Kadeya, Manuela Zoninsein, was recently spotlighted on CBS News last month for developing a "closed-loop hydration station" that not only dispenses a drink, but takes a bottle back, cleans it, and dispense a new one. A few of our favorite takeaway points below: "More than 1 million single-use plastic water bottles are purchased every minute globally. Kadeya's new vending machine was created to change that—with just one machine eliminating more than 100,000 plastic bottles in a year." "Kadeya" means "chain" in Portuguese—in a reference to its mission both to reimagine the supply chain and, as the company puts it, "start a chain reaction for good." "Two-thirds of the carbon footprint of a packaged beverage comes from transportation and labor.
