A Step Towards Adaptive #OnlineLearning: Exploring the Role of #GPT as Virtual #TeachingAssistants in #OnlineEducation "Human TAs are bound by time constraints <<often overloaded with multiple responsibilities, less well compensated>> and are often available only during limited working hours.. can result in a wait time for students seeking answers to their coursework questions. This paper introduces a novel approach to address this need by developing a Virtual Teaching Assistant (#TA) that leverages #OpenAI’s text embeddings to format and search for data and GPT to adapt the style and content of its responses... Our virtual TA, JeepyTA, offers round-the-clock assistance to students, much more rapidly addressing their academic queries. The European University Association’s #Trends2024 (9th edition) "provides an overview of how European #highereducation institutions experienced changes over the past five years, due to higher education reforms, and in the wider context of societal, political, economic and #technological changes, marked among others by the implications of Covid-19 pandemic and Russia’s war against Ukraine.." Context / Methodology: The Trends 2024 online survey was open between April and July 2023, and collected a response from 489 HEIs in 46 higher education systems of the EHEA. The questionnaire addressed major changes and their impact, with a focus on the past five years (since Trends 2018 was published) and the institutions’ prospects for the next five years.
