Came across this in my email today, while sitting at Walter Reed waiting to find out when I will likely need surgery. Military Spouses want to work. We have an amazing amount of soft skills, a propensity to learn new things and a diverse view on the world. Many times we end up with an employer who sees us as temporary hires (even though we generally stay longer than a new hire would anyway) and pass on us. Our resumes are scrutinized because we have too many cities, gaps, or the wrong address and our education is overlooked because we may not have been able to find employment in our field during our last move. Remote work is clutch and having some flexibility in scheduling is so important. This absolutely transcends the military spouse world and as we see more companies require RTO, we will see more caretakers drop out of the workforce again. Consider making a commitment if you can, it changes lives. Or learn more about some amazing organizations who want to help you find that talent and cover some of the costs! https://lnkd.in/eWT5pAVD

Joining Forces was the first major White House initiative directed at helping our nation’s military families and veterans. I was extremely proud that our President and First Lady were interested in helping with veteran and milspouse unemployment. The White House can't and doesn't make policy, but it can provide awareness, drive and cohesion to a cause. Joining Forces supercharged our movement, by challenging nonprofits and companies to do the right thing, and lending their credibility to the effort [thank you Rory Brosius, Trooper Sanders, Brad Cooper and many more! [And thank you to members of the Trump White House, particularly Karen Pence and KellyAnn Conway, who kept up the drumbeat. They did not have to take up a cause that their predecessor championed, and White Houses rarely do – much gratitude to them and leaders like Jana Toner who drove things on the ground. And now of course the Biden administration is extending that leadership with Dr. Biden, Rory and now Elizabeth Jamison, Eryn Wagnon and Sheila Casey - who has dedicated a lifetime to leading our families.] Nonprofits stepped up and made bold commitments to help families – number of families served with mental health support, care packages and letters for troops, etc. But only one completely fulfilled one of the most audacious commitments in Joining Forces. Hiring Our Heroes committed to, and hosted, 400 hiring fairs across the country in a single year. It is worth stopping for a minute and considering that – over 1 per day, from a staff of less than 30 people, for one year. Hiring fairs are not always the most efficient way to recruit. But our events weren’t just intended for that. They were intended to raise awareness that America’s veterans are your neighbors, they are well-trained and competent, and they made great employees. The collective efforts of our small but mighty team and our partners at the Markham Group, Inc. like Greg Hale and Paul Neaville, our funders, the media, government and the White House, created a movement that was unstoppable – literally, as the movement continues to this day, long after veteran unemployment is under 3%. #hiringourheroeshistory #veteran #milspouse #veteranhiring #milspousehiring

On this special day, Hiring a Veteran Day, we salute the brave men and women who have served our country. Their dedication and sacrifice have made our nation stronger and safer. Just wanted to let you know about a 2 for 1 offer we have going in April and May. Times are tough and more and more people in the 50 demographic are needing to work to make ends meet. At Seniors@work, we are getting more people registering as job seekers on our site looking for work - we have close to 6000 now. Unemployment is certainly on the rise and will likely continue to do so You may have read the recent article in the Sunday Star Times and Stuff which was entitled " Retirees work into 80s, 90s with ‘insufficient’ Super and snowballing living costs" and which featured our platform – if you are interested, you can read it below. To try to encourage employers to list roles on our platform welcoming and encouraging the 50 pluses to look at joining their teams, we have this 2 for 1 offer available in April and May We do appreciate that many employers are not recruiting at the moment, but if you are looking for mature staff, this demographic would welcome your support. Thank you All details can easily be found on our website, www.seniorsatwork.nz
