Exciting news! The American Psychological Association (APA) has released its first-ever guidelines for the treatment of graduate students in psychology programs. These guidelines focus on equity, respect, and promoting ethical educational practices. Influenced by sociopolitical events like the COVID-19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement, these guidelines aim to provide a roadmap for fairness and inclusivity in graduate education. They cover four dimensions: support for students, policies and procedures, professional socialization, and social and political responsiveness. We believe these guidelines are a crucial step towards creating a nurturing and empowering environment for the next generation of psychologists. Let's work together to ensure that graduate programs prioritize the well-being and success of their students. #psychologistsofcolor #APA #GraduateEducation #EquityAndInclusion #PsychologyPrograms #EthicalPractices #SupportForStudents #ProfessionalSocialization #SocialJustice #CommunityPost

Circle of courage: The Circle of Courage model portrays four growth needs of all children: Belonging, Mastery, Independence, and Generosity. When these needs are met, children grow and thrive. When these are not met, it results in discipline problems. This philosophy emerged from collaboration of Martin Brokenleg, a professor of Native American Studies, and Larry Brendtro, a professor in children's behavior disorders. They studied how traditional indigenous cultures reared children without resorting to coercive discipline. These principles are grounded in resilience science and positive psychology. It is used to build resilience in youth and adolescents. It can also be used to rehabilitate youth with severe emotional and behavioural problems. The model was adopted to youth services in South Africa during the administration of Nelson Mandela.
