For me the health impacts of intimate partner abuse have been horrific but the trauma I’ve endured through post separation abuse, police failures and family law corruption have been catastrophic. Family court emboldens perpetrators and police completely step out of the picture when there’s family court orders or proceedings. Police refuse to do their jobs to protect at the mention of family court. I have ongoing experience of this shocking perpetrator enabling behaviour. Police and family law failures have been well documented and covered in the media. Report after report, inquiry after inquiry, round table after round table. There’s zero real help for victim survivors. Government refuses to act on the knowledge they have of institutional corruption, misogyny and misconduct. Family court judges overrule protection orders making them null and void. A waste of taxpayers’ money and a dangerous situation for victims of abuse. Perpetrators pay for the right to continue to stalk, harm and abuse their ex partners and children. When perpetrators lie to the courts there’s absolutely no consequence. Lawyers are making a fortune from perpetrators so there’s no incentive to stop them. There will be no change for women and children’s safety whilst the family court still stands. The ALRC and countless other organisations and experts have called for this secret and corrupt court to be abolished. 2024 is the year that the institutional abuse and betrayal of women and children ends. People who have been subject to abuse are more likely to experience physical and mental health effects than previously thought, according to a new study published in Nature Medicine. Mental health and maternal health had strongest association following intimate partner violence (IPV) and childhood sexual abuse. “The research findings underscore the urgent need for robust preventive measures and support systems”, said Dr Joht Singh Chandan, Clinical Associate Professor in Public Health at the University of Birmingham and senior co-lead author of the research paper. The papers authors highlight IPV as a “global public health imperative requiring political and scientific momentum towards effective prevention and intervention strategies." The study was funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. #research #domesticabuseawareness #mentalhealth #WEPROTECT #ProtectingThroughPartnership #survivorsupport
