The boundaries between segments hold tremendous potential, especially for both academic and CTE dual enrollment. Allowing this to be managed and tracked at the level of students and families, and schools and colleges is critical. However, without adequate software or personal technology these type of strategic and accessible dual enrollment options and pathways are only available to a tiny fraction of the school population and have to managed with adequate human resourcing, which is difficult in budget constrained times.
As I reflect on the wild ride that is ASU-GSV, I'm energized by the fact that "skills," "pathways," and "degrees" were mentioned together throughout the summit. To me, that signals that there is a growing commitment to delivering real value for students via strong pathways from education to career. We know that dual enrollment is often an important component of those pathways—that's why I'm excited to share our team's new learning deck. Check it out to learn about the history of dual enrollment, our hypothesis about what great dual enrollment programs look like, and the levers we have to make all dual enrollment programs great ones. Shoutout to Career Ladders Project, the Community College Research Center, and the Public Policy Institute of California for their partnership—as well as Bill Tucker and Sylvia Symonds, Ph.D. for their synthesis. https://lnkd.in/ddRxupij

Reflection. It is always good to reflect and think about what you would change if you did something again and do differently (better). However at the same time it is also good to think about the achievements you and your team have made. In one year at RIS we have: 1) Improved our parent and community feedback (which is graded and quantified biannually) to a school and group all time record. 2) Increased the number of students gaining entrance to their first choice university, which is almost at 100%. 3) Increased school numbers compared to same date last year by 21%. 4) Set new record levels of students attaining A* and A grades. 5) Vastly increased the 'moveable middles' from C and D grade at A level, to A and B grades. 6) Improved the retention of staff from 76% (2021/22) to 91% (2022/23). 7) Broke new school records at iGCSE and A level in many subjects including maths and all three specialist sciences. 8) Increased wellbeing for all and improved staff morale considerably. There are many more areas to celebrate this year, but this post is really just to reflect on the journey and acknowledge/ thank my incredible team. I am very appreciative and proud of each one of them. Everyone plays an equal part whether they are a support member of staff (working in for example, security, admission team, health and safety) or working in the academic teaching team. Its the team that works and this team does just that.

It has been such an honor to work with the CCBA team over the last year to align two innovative models- community college bachelors and competency-based education. When stars align, the best outcomes for students are reached! New research results out this week from Debra Bragg and Iris Palmer highlight the success of South Texas College and our C-BEN board member, Emma Lemus-Miller, PhD and C-BEN Consultant Angie Walker presented with Cheryl Cicotti, CCBA on how to bring the two models together. “In 2021, there were 2,477 CCB students enrolled across seven community colleges in Texas. About 75 percent of these students were enrolled at South Texas College..." Key Findings 🔎 Students in CCB programs are, on average, older than those in associate degree-granting programs at community colleges or students at traditional colleges and universities. However, students in CCB programs in Texas are slightly younger than those in other states. 🔎 CCB students who enrolled and graduated in Texas are predominantly female, Latine, and recipients of Pell Grants. A phenomenal 80 percent of graduates received a Pell Grant. 🔎 2018 graduates of Texas CCB programs are earning a median wage of $44,102 three years after graduation, which is comparable to Texans with bachelor’s degrees writ large. https://lnkd.in/e8Ua2bXk
Angie Napper Walker, C-BEN Consultant is currently at the Community College Baccalaureate Association conference this week! Visit the C-BEN table to talk with Angie about CBE and her presentation, "CBE and Community College Baccalaureate Programs: Enabling the Pathway to Degrees," co-presented with Cheryl Cicotti, Project Director at CCBA and Emma Lemus-Miller, PhD, Program Chair for the Organizational Leadership Program at South Texas College. Community college baccalaureates (CCBs) and competency-based education (CBE) are a powerful combination, offering accessible, affordable, and quality pathways to degrees. Angie and Cheryl will explore how CCBs and CBE complement each other, enabling learners to seamlessly stack their learning into degree programs. Don't miss out on this session to glean insights from institutions that have successfully implemented CCBs using CBE, and to learn strategies for building pathways to student success and employability.

When I present to 3 Enrollment Marketing, Inc. partner institutions, I tell them they could use LinkedIn's document posts to post their viewbook or a brochure that explains why people should attend. It isn't a cool platform, and most people want to be where the kids are. But this platform is where the high school admins are, and this can be a useful tool for telling the story of a school. Check out this post below to see how LinkedIn elegantly posts a PDF. This isn't cutting-edge. But it can matter.
