"Seems like they have been 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐚 𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐤 this whole time" Phrase to describe unawareness and ability to adapt to your surroundings 🛑 Many companies across industries have continued to be doing the same thing and expecting a different outcome despite the multiple signs of their industry and market trends The latest example is Victoria’s Secret & Co., who reported 1.88B USD loss in sales since 2018 and -6.5% in revenue last year📉 ➡ Mainly due to their inability to understand consumer preferences and adapt to trends like inclusivity, deconstruction of body stereotypes, comfort, athletic leisure, and gender neutrality 🕚 Arriving late to the party, Victoria Secret is now trying to fast forward their missed evolution and reinvent themselves to compete against first movers like Aerie by American Eagle and SKIMS by Kim Kardashian ❗ What went wrong? Victoria Secret thought that hanging on to the title of "dominant player in the longevity space" could be enough to survive forever What does these have to do with #supplychain? In supply chain we are the enablers of making things happen; turning any idea into reality What if the idea wont move the company forward? 🔝Next level of purpose evolution!   ❗The purpose discussion has entered a new phase. While most companies have developed a purpose concept, new challenges arise. In some cases there is unclarity where and how the purpose should be communicated, others struggle finding a way to powerfully activate and implement the purpose. The two attached articles address these topics (German-only).   My partner colleague Simon Aschermann takes up the recent discussion following the Unilever's CEO remark that purpose can be an "unwelcome distraction". Is this heralding the end of corporate purpose? Surely it requires a broder understanding of purpose than just being a marketing slogan.   💡His recommendations: 1.) Aim for "deep purpose", a purpose that gives orientation and is at the same time deeply anchored in the organization's operating system 2.) Beware of "purpose washing", better do without a purpose instead of using it only for marketing 3.) Understand purpose as key performance driver and not as an 'either-or' 4.) Think purpose in connection to stategy and culture   My latest contribution deals with the steps to implement a purpose-driven culture and to create synergies with further organizational actions fields like leadership development & employer branding.   💡My takeaways: 1.) This year, although it will be the year of "Action and Co-creation" for us at CreativesAtWork, it will also be a year where I'm making a conscious effort for personal growth. One resolution: Read More, Learn More. Recently delved into a fascinating TIME's article on Tadashi Yanai, "The Rebel" behind UNIQLO. 🚀 Here's what struck a chord for me: 1. Continuous Adaptation: Tadashi Yanai's journey shows me the importance of continuous adaptation. Like him, we must reassess our approaches, shedding outdated methods to stay relevant in a fast-evolving world. 2. Embracing Change and Risk: Yanai's willingness to take risks and embrace change is a lesson in itself. To achieve our goals, we should learn to step out of our comfort zones, recognizing that transformation often comes with risk. But the question is how much risk is truly enough? Calculated risks – are they stepping stones or holding us back? 3. Global Perspective: Yanai's global vision resonates – growth often involves expanding our horizons. Whether in career or life, embracing diverse perspectives can lead to profound personal development. What is your #learningpoints from Tadashi Yanai? Would love to hear from you. Life goes on. LVMH’s “borrowing” of my projects was just an unpleasant incident that did not prevent me from moving on, developing other projects, and finding new partners. Unfortunately for Bernard, but fortunately for me, he lost the most interesting and rentable projects, which I never sent to him and will develop with my new, loyal and honest, partners. I'm not going to waste time on the past. This is low and petty. (For those who don’t know the situation - https://lnkd.in/gQxCUwww ) Bernard Arnault. Those strategic plans are not just outdated, but already well-known to everyone. I tried to warn you. Your losses of 17 billion in 2 days have been supplemented by another 16 billion in 2 days again. You fell from the 1st place on the Forbes/Bloomberg lists, which means your losses did not consist of just money, but were (and will become) more significant than those described by me. For my part, even over a much longer period, I lost an estimated billion. Why do we need this? Why waiting for the Armistice Day on November 11th, to conclude our armistice with you? No conflict has winners and cannot be resolved by force. Only by negotiations. (By the way, Elon Musk, you wiggled out of the situation pretty well, bravo! However, it is very sad that, having received parts of my portfolio with projects for the development of your companies, you didn’t transmit to LVMH the ones that I asked you to transmit to Bernard as his colleague, partner, and close friend) -- P.S. Riding on waves of inspiration after #Handelskongress - the largest and most important retail congress in Germany! I am certain: Every single one at Handelskongress had to go through a massive, fundamental transformation during the past few years. And I believe that we can only be sustainable, we can only be resilient, and we can only have longevity, if we put transformation at the heart of our business. Thus, in my keynote I shared insights in the transformation process at C&A and how we create sustainable growth. One aspect I want to highlight here: As retailers, we are having an impact on people. We directly affect the vibrancy and vitality of city centers. We have to remind everyone of the beauty of city life around us and its effect on communities. Thus, an important pillar of our #OneCandA strategy is the strategic investment in stores – in new and renewed central retail locations. In the end of the day, retail is a people’s business. At Handelskongress, people from our industry collaboratively discussed about current challenges and future solutions: fellow CEOs from German and international companies like Dr. Alexander v. Preen; renowned retail experts; chairpersons from retail associations like Stefan Genth and Marco Atzberger and consumer representations; and politicians, including the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Robert Habeck and leaders from German parties.
