[#Navgreek] ⚓️ 🇬🇷 On November 21, Naval Group and Naval Group Hellas, the company’s subsidiary in Greece, signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation (MoU) with NCSR "DEMOKRITOS", the largest multidisciplinary research centre in Greece, in the presence of General Directorate for Defense Investments and Armaments (GDDIA) Director Admiral Aristeidis Alexopoulos.   Through this signature, they give a concrete expression of their will to strengthen their cooperation for further common projects, both in civil and defense applications. Already, they will answer together to EDF 2023 call about Innovative Propulsion Systems with the CALIPSO project. 🤝   This cooperation agreement will contribute to develop and share know-how and best practices, as well as to build the framework needed to enable research and innovation. It will foster the development of joint projects, mostly at a European and NATO level, in relation with naval technology, and create new high-technology products and services with defense application. 💪

PESCO project on ‘Essential Elements of European Escorts’ advances Hosted by EDA, the second international workshop of the #PESCO 4E project gathered representatives from the participating Member States of Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, and Sweden with Germany attending as an observer and Norway, Denmark, and Belgium as interested parties. The workshop concluded by setting the project’s scope, agreeing on the systems to be developed collaboratively for the warship of the future. Representatives from leading companies in the defence industry shared their vision for the development of the different future capabilities. Led by the Spanish Navy (Armada), the PESCO 4E project aims to develop the most important systems of any surface combatant that may be built in Europe from 2035 to 2045, covering systems of combat, communication and information, navigation, platform management and their integration. EDA actively supports the project’s development and its international projection among Member States. Malaysia's MILGEM corvette choice was the most striking development of the DSA 2024 exhibition. As far as I saw, RMN officers are very excited about the proven MILGEM design. Though it's not announced yet, they will probably choose ATMACA as the main ASuW weapon. The most significant difference from the Turkish version is the addition of 2x2 VLS for AAW purposes, with the RMN's surprising selection of the South Korean Haegung missile. This clearly demonstrates the flexibility and adaptability of the MILGEM design. However, the ship will not be fitted with RAM. The ship's dimensions are the same as the Turkish variant. The RMN aims to procure a proven design and systems, so the CMS and sensor suite will likely be the same or very similar to the Turkish version. The radar on the mockup appears to be the CENK-S, whereas the Turkish ships are equipped with the Smart-S Mk2. Along with LCSs, MILGEM corvettes (LMN Batch 2) will constitute the backbone of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) in the next decade. The sale of MILGEM corvettes to Malaysia signifies significant progress for the Turkish defence industry, positioning it as a major player in the Asia-Pacific market. 🔥 ELSA Project Launched: Europe United in Long-Range Strike Development and Industrial Expansion 🚀 At the recent #NATO Summit, defence ministers from France, Germany, Italy, and Poland signed a joint declaration, with potential interest from Spain, Sweden, and the UK. The European Long-Range Strike Approach (ELSA) initiative aims to develop missiles with ranges between 1,000 and 2,000 kilometers, including advanced ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic missiles. France's Missile de Croisière Naval (#MdCN), manufactured by MBDA, is proposed as a foundational model, and MBDA is also developing a new Land Cruise Missile with advanced capabilities. This effort addresses critical gaps in European defences highlighted by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. 💪This collaboration represents a significant step towards strengthening European defence capabilities and expanding the continent's industrial base to produce weapons at scale and speed, addressing major challenges for European military planners. The Spanish Council of Ministers has approved the modernization of the #Patriot defence system, for which we have developed the new control section of the GEM-T missile for Raytheon, thereby strengthening Spain's air defence and aligning it with NATO standards. This update ensures the interoperability of Spain's Armed Forces with their allies and enhances both national security and the capabilities of the Spanish technology industry in high-tech defence projects. The agreement also reinforces the role of the Spanish industry in the design and manufacture of advanced defence systems, establishing Sener Aerospace & Defence as an international centre of excellence in actuation and control systems. The international organization for armament cooperation, #OCCAR, has exercised the option for the construction of the fourth next-generation submarine under the #U212NFS program for the #ItalianNavy. The unit has a total value of approximately 500 million euros. A signing ceremony took place in Muggiano on the occasion of the steel cutting for the third NFS submarine, attended by OCCAR Director Joachim Sucker, General Manager Naval Vessels Division Dario Deste, and Director of Naval Armaments Giuseppe #Abbamonte. The day was further highlighted by the activation of a significant Engineering Change Proposal for the industrialization in Italy, production, and integration on board all U212NFS submarines of an innovative lithium energy storage system. The U212NFS submarines will be highly innovative thanks to significant design modifications that we have developed independently in accordance with the Navy's requirements, to meet the need to ensure adequate surveillance and control capabilities of underwater spaces. FEAC Engineering is proud to announce its participation in the European Patrol Corvette (EPC) Project! This great initiative focuses on the collaborative development of innovative naval vessels involving several European Union Navies. More specifically, on October 24, 2023, OCCAR (Organisation for Joint Armament Co-operation) officially entered into an agreement with the consortium coordinated by NAVIRIS and featuring prominent shipbuilding companies like FINCANTIERI (Italy), NAVAL GROUP (France), Navantia, S.A., S.M.E (Spain), as well as other key contributors from Denmark, Norway, and our home country. The finalization of the contractual documents marks the commencement of the first phase of the European Patrol Corvette (EPC) project. The #EPC project signifies a significant stride in European defence cooperation. In this initial phase, the primary objective is to create the foundational design for the next-generation European Patrol Corvette, which will encompass two main versions: the Long Range Multipurpose and the Full Combat Multipurpose. With a duration of 24 months and an overall value for this first phase of 87 M€, the project is strongly supported by the European Commission (EC) through the European Defence Fund (EDF). OCCAR will manage the full scope of the project, acting as Granting Authority, on mandate. EPC project will play a pivotal role in enhancing European sovereignty in the field of second-line naval vessels.
