Blackstar Diversified Enterprise collaborated with Jubilee Housing to develop Maycroft Apartments, the first affordable housing project in the District of Columbia to fully power a resiliency center through solar PV paired with a battery storage system (solar storage). This groundbreaking project, "The Resiliency Center powered by Pepco," demonstrates how solar energy combined with battery storage can reliably power critical services for affordable housing residents during outages while also delivering economic benefits to low-income households. Simply put, our team helped create a system at Maycroft Apartments that uses solar panels and batteries to provide power even when the main power grid goes down. This system ensures that residents have access to essential services like refrigeration, device charging, and telecommunications during power outages. The solar panels on the roof generate renewable energy, which is stored in batteries we supplied, making sure there's always power available when needed. Overall, this project showcases a successful collaboration to enhance the resilience and sustainability of affordable housing. By integrating advanced solar and battery storage technologies, we provided a reliable and economical power solution that benefits the community.
