Are you interested in becoming an author for SMR? We are seeking submissions from all disciplines and perspectives that adress topics in the key areas of service research, including contributions from diciplines such as engineering, psychology, and economics, as long as they adress economic topics related to service research. The articles aim to provide informative content across diciplines and focus on how the findings can be practically applied in real-life settings. If you would like to submit your paper, please visit the SMR website at https://lnkd.in/eGT9xA2s and submit your manuscript using the online submission system. To find out more about our general call for papers please visit https://lnkd.in/eavnJf55 We are excited to receive your submissions and look forward to review your work!

The European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) 2024 in Cyprus has already started. In the many tracks centered around the theme "People First: Constructing Digital Futures Together," service-related topics are also well-represented. For those interested in service topics, we particularly recommend the track "Digital Service Systems." Our Editor-in-Chief Martin Matzner and Editorial Office staff member Pepe Bellin will also be present. They will be available for discussions and questions about SMR until June 19. We look forward to seeing you!

🇪🇺 In 2020, the European Commission announced the development of European Data Spaces across ten domains. These Data Spaces provide the technological foundation for open #data #ecosystems and new business opportunities, including data-driven services. For #interdisciplinary #service researchers, these emerging Data Spaces represent novel and complex phenomena, encompassing technological, regulatory, and managerial elements. To help you navigate the numerous research opportunities, #SMR authors Arthur Kari, Tim Schurig, and Martin Gersch have recently published their article, "The Emergence of a New European Data Economy: A Systematic Research Agenda for Health Data Spaces." By focusing on health data spaces, the authors propose a systematic research agenda at the intersection of information systems and service research. Their multi-lens research agenda offers new approaches to studying European Data Spaces at different levels of analysis (Open Access). #dataspaces #eu #europe Editorial Board: Christiane Hipp, Martin Matzner, Marion Büttgen, Andreas Eggert, Heiner Evanschitzky, Jens Hogreve, Helmut Krcmar, Joachim Hueffmeier Nomos Verlagsgesellschaft

Dear #SMR reader, Are you researching the intersection of service systems, #digitalisation and #engineering? Then take a look at our latest article: Marx et al. will give you insight into how standardisation initiatives influence the engineering of #smart #service #systems. The authors ask two questions: 1. How does compliance with standards affect the engineering of service systems? and 2. How does participation in standardisation initiatives affect service systems engineering? By examining the "omlox" initiative, the authors show that standardisation can lead to more efficient implementation and management of a service system. The case study also highlights the role of standardisation in extending resources and capabilities within smart service systems. Can #services be used to achieve sustainable and sufficient outcomes? Although those concepts might not seem closely related at first sight, #SMR author Felix Zechiel suggests otherwise. In his latest publication, the author proposes an extension of the “services for sufficiency" framework. Service offerings can contribute to #sustainability through decreasing overconsumption of resource-intensive material goods. To understand how exactly this works, two sets of categories are integrated into the framework: 1) Different #sufficiency categories and 2) key categories for service offerings for sufficiency. By exploring how businesses can utilize services for sufficiency, Mr. Zechiel provides a starting point for business model development and adds to the discussion on sustainability within service research. Dear SMR Community, We are pleased to announce the publication of our latest issue. The three articles in this edition cover different areas of interdisciplinary service research: European Data Spaces, Sustainability and Smart Service Systems. 🇪🇺 If you are interested in European Data Spaces, the article by Kari et al. is a must read. The authors propose a systematic research agenda for health data spaces at the intersection of information systems and service research. You'll find a multi-lens research agenda that offers new approaches to studying European data spaces at different levels of analysis (Open Access). 🌱 On the other hand, Felix Zechiel puts forward the idea of combining services and sufficiency. For SMR readers with a focus on sustainability, this article offers a crucial - yet underexplored - perspective on how to address environmental and social challenges with services. ⚙️ The third article in this issue is a case study of the "omlox" standardisation initiative. By examining this real-world case of applied service systems engineering, Marx et al. provide you with a deep dive into how standardisation works as a catalyst for extending resources and capabilities in smart service systems. We would like to thank all the contributing authors: Arthur Kari, Tim Schurig, Martin Gersch, Felix Zechiel, Dr. Emanuel Marx, Roman Daudrich, Tobias Pauli and Daniel Beverungen.
