Yesterday JRS Group had the pleasure of sponsoring a putting contest for Special Leisure Services Foundation (SLSF)'s Bridges of Poplar Creek Golf Outing. We played, we volunteered, because we love showing up for this amazing organization as they continue on their mission of supporting recreation for children and adults with disabilities. #jrscares #jrspassionforpeople

Last week our Disability Team were with students from Warrington Vale Royal to deliver some sessions on disability sport and awareness. The students had the opportunity to take part in various activities such as wheelchair rugby, boccia and then going through different real world scenarios to see how the students would tailor the sport to fit the individuals needs. Partnerships like this are vital to the continued support for the disability community, educating the next generation of coaches so everyone can experience the sports we love. #bethechange #wheelchairrugby #rugby #rugbyleague #disability #disabilityawareness #disabilitysupport #disabilitysport #charity #supportlocal #communityfundraising #communityfirst #communitywork #communitywellness #communitysupport #warrington #northwest #warringtonwolvesfoundation #warringtonwolves #wiredna #changinglives #changinglivesthroughsport

As a grants professional this is a topic that I have been reflecting on lately. The charity model of disability has a long history in philanthropy and it is completely unnecessary and outdated. Your fundraising narrative doesn't need to be centered around "doom and gloom" scenarios to be successful. Grant makers should ideally focus on supporting positive outcomes (employment, education, quality of life, etc.) rather than viewing disability as a problem in need of fixing.

Feds earmark $212 million to improve disability housing. Nonprofits and housing agencies have until Feb. 11, 2024, to apply for the funding. The funds are made available through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development through the Section 811 Supportive Housing for Persons with Disabilities program. The Section 811 program is aimed at helping low-income people with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 62 access community-based housing. Half of the funds will go toward developing new or rehabilitating existing supportive housing for low-income people with disabilities and keeping it affordable. The remaining money will be used for grants to housing agencies to subsidize rental costs.

To kick off Learning Disability Week 2024, Sam Michael Wood and I made a short video for Friends 2 Friends, a local charity in Lichfield and Burton in Staffordshire that supports people with learning disabilities. This year's theme, "Do you see me?" focuses on being seen, heard, and valued. We spoke with the members to learn more about what this means to them. Please share this video to help spread awareness 🎥🎬 #LearningDisabilityWeek #learningdisabilities #learningdisability #learningdisabilityawareness #learningdisabilitiesawareness
