The Missing Reminiscence Against Nihilism & Dehumanization The central message of the great elevated mind of Ian McGilchrist is that, both science and philosophy must rid of its nihilism in coming to trans-disciplinary grip with perhaps the “hermeneutics of Absolute phenomenology”, in order to stop the worsening paralysis in human way of knowing, falling further down the dehumanizing trajectory. However, despite of the huge amount of pages Ian McGilChrist has devoted in demonstrating the grief danger of meaninglessness grasp of the world, when it comes to the courage to proclaim the Absolute against nihilism, he would rather reduce metaphysic to simply as “metaphor”, not reminiscence and reverence of God, as if Imagination is merely just “wishful thinking”. Perhaps the quest to humanistic nature requires tremendous effort, definitely not that kind of concrescence effort as how McGilChrist has warned about, but perhaps the “value” that McGilChrist has envisaged must put being into test in the world through fortitude, temperance and repentance. as human intellect would come to its utmost exhaustion of reminiscence and reverence of God. This Imagination of God is not merely the production of metaphor as the formal is Absolute while the later could be merely nihilistic fantasy. Indeed, the elevation of consciousness should be through ontology, the flourishing of becoming human, not merely about cumulation of knowledge & epistemology, of which the recursive problem of hemispherical reductionism might persist. I am sure McGilchrist is aware that his intellectual endeavor could be manipulated as yet another concrescence of “best practice”. Thus, the elevation of God-Human-Imagination consciousness should then become the foundational aim of metaphysical revolution from education to economics, and the “hermeneutics of Absolute phenomenology” is the philosophy for ontological transformation of humanistic nature in flourishing purpose, existence, goodness and sustainability.
Lecture:The hemisphere lateralisation hypothesis & our approach to basic research This event took place on the 5th May 2023 Location: Basel, Switzerland The Center for Data Analytics at the University of Basel invited Dr. Iain McGilchrist for the inaugural lecture of a new colloquium series aiming to inspire our thinking about how we approach basic research in the modern era. The lecture was followed by a panel discussion with Prof. Cristina Granziera, a neurologist and neuroscientist in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, and Prof. Philipp Sterzer, a psychiatrist and neuroscientist in the Department of Clinical Research. Chair: Dr. Geoffrey Fucile https://lnkd.in/g6H5chsH

We were guests at the Falling Walls Foundation Science Summit at the beginning of November. 🚀 We saw outstanding presentations of scientific breakthroughs and listened to exciting panels. 👩🎓 The round table on "Training Future Scientists - Is the PhD still up to date?" was particularly exciting and discussed the up-to-dateness of PhD training. The landscape of science is evolving rapidly, and the role of early career researchers has never been more crucial. The traditional PhD stands as the cornerstone of academic work. With sweeping changes in science and society's expectations, it raises the question: Are we adequately preparing the next generation of researchers? In a new interview, Caltech professor, The Nobel Prize laureate and scientific advisor to President Joe Biden, Frances Arnold shares her insights on the role of science in policy, the future of directed evolution, and the advice she would give to young scientists. On science in policy: ‘Science is the centre of decision making. When science is not used as a basis, we make terrible decisions.’ On directed evolution: ‘Directed evolution is a powerful method. It's generated everything we've seen in the biological world. So, there's no reason it can't keep going and be used to kind of fine-tune enzymes for our applications.’ On advice for young scientists: ‘Choose to do what you enjoy doing, and then you're successful every day.’ And her advice for the latest Nobel laureates? ‘Use your platform well.’ Arnold's work has had a profound impact on the world, and her insights are essential for anyone who cares about the future of science and technology.
