In the refrigeration world, defrosting is the process of removing ice that forms on the internal surfaces of refrigerators and freezers. This ice can reduce efficiency by increasing energy consumption and internal temperature. There are three main defrosting methods: - Defrosting by stopping compressor: It is based on the switching off of the compressor and requires a longer time even if it does not require additional energy: it is recommended for medium-small systems with temperatures around zero. - Electric Defrost: It uses an electric heater to speed up the process. It obviously requires an energy input and is recommended for medium-sized systems and temperatures below zero, but not extremely cold. - Hot gas defrosting: It uses the same refrigerant circuit, but in reverse mode. The hot gas leaving the compressor is used to melt the ice. It requires the compressor to be running and is recommended for very large systems or systems operating at low temperatures. The most suitable defrosting method for a system depends on a number of factors, including: the size of the appliance, the frequency of use and the internal temperature of the refrigerating system itself.
