This is somewhat anecdotal, to be sure, but I'm analyzing sites that took serious ranking hits between March 4-25, which would be roughly in the timeline of the March 2024 Spam Update and the two new spam factors. I'm particularly interested in the Scaled Content Abuse penalty. Note that this overlapped entirely with the March 2024 Core Update. I'm seeing a *lot* of coupon sites hit hard. Here are a few that had over 500 top 10 rankings in STAT on March 4: • www.couponarea.com (-100%) • www.clothingrac.com (-100%) • www.couponsplusdeals.com (-100%) • www.couponduos.com (-100%) • www.couponannie.com (-100%) • www.savevy.com (-100%) • www.couponbind.com (-98%) • couponado.com (-96%) The parenthetical value is a rough, CTR-based estimate of visibility loss. These are anecdotal, and I can't prove a connection to scaled content, but these are severe losses and just a handful of examples.

Broadcaster extraordinaire. My alter ego writes web sites for his punters. This one introduces another key player, lets call them "Sitemaster" who provide hosting services and stuff. The issue is the nature of those services, where they are, what they do.. Or not... And who is responsible for what. Amongst other things it raises, in overview DNS. Over some 5 years now of looking under the hood at web sites, very few of them are clean DNS wise. And part of that is, I am convinced, the nature of who actually owns what when a web site is set up. The internal mechanics of "Sitemaster" is based on a live workig site host that many will have their corporate presences supported by.... One key point? There is no practical working relationship between TLD and physical location in the world. And if you think about it, that raises all sorts of legal fun and games.... You are all international lawyers now... Or rather you need to be.. And the way T&C are written, when it boils down to it, most don’t actually own much either… Its just that after spending the past few years looking "under the hood" at so many web sites now and what they drop into my device, I am not at all sure people realise that... Or the legal world needs to realise much of the current IT law is not fit for purpose in a massively connected world. Have a good week end.

John Mueller, all the examples are websites that host irrelevant content, but this definition seems to encompass all websites—even relevant sites—that accept third-party content with little or no oversight. I took a huge risk and disavowed 4000 backlinks at once.   But the result was interesting!   This competitive gaming niche website got recovered in less than 30 days.   What went wrong with this website?   -This website was badly hit due to its spammy backlink profile (thanks to some ambitious agency that created thousands of forum links in 3 months). -They disavowed only 250 links out of 4000.   What I did to recover:   -Disavowed all links -Created supporting content written by an experienced writer. -Built highly relevant new links gradually. -Improved user experience and internal linking   If your website is also affected by any recent update, do the following: -Check if it's due to a link or content (content-based penalties take more time to recover). -Move fast and take the risks. -Don't think that website will never recover (most of the time, it's easier than you think). -Remove excessive guest post links. -Remove content that is not fulfilling the user intent.
