According to CNN, around 460,000 children go missing every year in the US. Of those, about 1 in 6 of the more than 28,800 cases of children reported missing to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in 2023 were likely victims of child trafficking, according to the nonprofit. 👨👩👧👦 It's crucial for parents to engage with their children and educate them about the importance of situational awareness without divulging specific life experiences. Some may worry about diminishing innocence, but discussing global issues like human trafficking is essential. Keeping Hope Alive: "National Missing Children's Day" May 25th, is National Missing Children's Day. It's a day to shine a light on child safety, honor the tireless efforts of those working to find missing children, and remember the children who are still waiting to be brought home. A Day of Remembrance and Action! National Missing Children's Day was established in 1983 in memory of Etan Patz, a six-year-old boy who vanished from his New York City neighborhood. His story, though heartbreaking, sparked a national conversation about child safety and the importance of resources for families facing this unimaginable situation. How You Can Help: - Educate yourself and your children: Talk to your children about safety precautions, like memorizing phone numbers and stranger danger. There are many resources available online and through local organizations. - Be aware of your surroundings: Pay attention to children in your community, especially if they seem lost or alone. - Share missing children's posters: Spreading information on social media and around your neighborhood can be critical in locating missing children. - Support organizations working to find missing children: The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and other organizations rely on donations and volunteers to continue their vital work. Education is a powerful tool for empowerment, and your contribution can make a significant difference in their lives. 3. *Raise Awareness*: Use your voice on social media or in your local community to highlight issues affecting girls. Share stories, facts, and ways others can get involved in supporting and advocating for the rights and opportunities of girl children. Prevent Child Abuse (PCA) Councils bring together leaders in our community to act as a voice for families and children to make sure their needs are met. By involving leaders from social work, education, government agencies, health care, community resources such as food pantries, business and nonprofits, PCA Councils are able to hear from every viewpoint in a community to better protect children and set communities up for success. Whether it is making connections between resources, working together to develop solutions or creating events that highlight the work the community is doing to prevent child abuse, PCA Council members are helping to create a safer and brighter future for families. Help ensure both a child's safety and dignity today! You can’t give someone dignity, but together we can help empower local families to keep their children safe and protect their own dignity. Did you know there’s currently more than 8000 children in the ACT who are already living in households where income is less than what's required to meet just four basic needs of a family - including housing, transport and groceries? As the year comes to an end, families everywhere are looking to celebrate and enjoy time together. But with the cost-of-living crisis making things even worse for those that are struggling. More families than ever will be spending this time simply focusing on surviving. Many making the hard choices between which essential items they can provide vs which bills they can pay. It's during these challenging times that dignity can suffer most. We know that together with our community, we can provide dignified support to local families that gives thousands of children a safer and brighter future.
