In December 2023, research conducted by Shelter revealed an alarming 14% increase, equivalent to 38,100 individuals, in the number of people experiencing homelessness compared to the previous year. Among them were over 309,000 individuals, including nearly 140,000 children, who lacked stable housing. These figures are deeply concerning, highlighting the urgent need for action. Each of us can make a difference by a. raising awareness and b. contributing via donations. Whether you choose to share this information, donate, or both, your efforts will help provide crucial support to those who, for various reasons, lack the fundamental necessities required to participate fully in our society. Homelessness is a persistent issue that demands our attention and collective action. It's very clear that this problem won't disappear overnight. WHAT IS A FURNITURE BANK? | Furniture banks are registered charities, not-for-profit organizations or social enterprises designed to provide gently used household furnishings to individuals and families in need, at little or no cost. The movement, which originated in the United States, is now firmly established and continuing to gain momentum across North America. The basic model involves gently used furniture being donated by people who no longer use it, and transferred to those who are struggling financially to furnish their own homes. Usually, a network of community agencies ensures that the right people get access to the furniture.
