Rotterdam, the Netherlands, isn't just Europe's largest port; it's also a frontrunner in the race to embrace circularity. Aiming to become the world's first fully circular city by 2050, it's transforming its economy, environment, and way of life. But what does "circular" even mean?
Essentially, it's about closing the loop on resource use. Instead of the traditional "take-make-dispose" model, Rotterdam envisions a system where materials and products are continuously reused, repaired, and repurposed. This minimizes waste, conserves resources, and reduces environmental impact.
Here are some of their innovative initiatives:

▪️ 𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲-𝘁𝗼-𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆: ♻️ Rotterdam uses advanced technology to convert waste into clean energy, powering homes and businesses.
While environmental protection is key, Rotterdam's circular journey isn't just about saving the planet. Studies by PwC and Circle Economy estimate that transitioning to a circular economy in the Netherlands could generate €𝟴𝟮 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗚𝗗𝗣 by 2030 and create 𝟳𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗷𝗼𝗯𝘀.
