Sexual violence against adults and children is systematically used as a weapon in wars and conflicts. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine 🇺🇦 , many people, particularly women and girls have experienced different kinds of sexual violence, numbers are rising and continues behind doors. Tetyana Ivanova from our partner organization ELEOS and her colleagues offer protection and support to women who survived of sexual violence in a women's shelter near Kyiv. Here they can find safety and peace and can talk about their experiences with specially trained staff. We as Johanniter support these activities, as we are convinced that we must prevent and end these crimes, focus on survivors, hold perpetrators accountable and expand support for all those affected. #SexualViolenceInConflicts #StopViolence #Ukraine

Rape is not resistance.
Today, 150 Days following October 7th, the UN Special Representative on Sexual Violence in Conflict released a report indicating reasonable grounds to believe Hamas committed sexual violence and reasonable grounds to believe that such violence may be ongoing. It also included horrific information that most victims were first subjected to rape and then killed with two incidents of terrorists raping women’s corpses. “In the context of the coordinated attack by Hamas and others of 7 October, the UN mission team found that there are reasonable grounds to believe that conflict-related sexual violence occurred in multiple locations, including rape and gang rape in at least three locations in southern Israel. The team also found a pattern of victims, mostly women, found fully or partially naked, bound and shot across multiple locations which “may be indicative of some forms of sexual violence”. Rape is NOT resistance. Period. #believeisraeliwomen #bringthemhome

📢 International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict 📢 Today, June 19th, we observe the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict. This day serves as an important opportunity to highlight the grim reality faced by thousands of people during armed conflicts worldwide. In Ukraine, nearly 300 victims of sexual violence in conflict have been officially registered. This number is only a fraction of the true scale, as many victims are afraid to seek help due to fear of persecution or social stigma. Sexual violence in conflict is used as a weapon, destroying lives and communities and leaving indelible scars. Women, men, and children fall victim to this brutality, which causes irreparable physical and psychological harm. We must unite in the fight for justice and support for those who have experienced sexual violence in conflict. We can contribute to this cause by spreading information, supporting victims, and ensuring these crimes do not go unpunished. 💔 Today, we remember the victims and stand with the survivors. 🙏 We call for peace, justice, and the protection of human rights for all. 💬 Share this post to raise awareness and support our common cause. Together, we can create a world free from violence and suffering. #EndSexualViolence #StandWithSurvivors #HIASUkraine #HIAS #InternationalDayForEliminationOfSexualViolenceInConflict #StandWithUkraine

This International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, we are shining a light on the need to prevent, mitigate and respond to sexual and gender-based violence in fragile settings across the globe. Our Senior Technical Advisor for Gender-based Violence shares, "We must prioritize the needs of women and girls in conflict settings and put an end to violence. Not only does the risk of human trafficking increase alongside rape, sex-selective genocide, and child, early and forced marriages, but intimate partner violence is worsened by armed conflict and other humanitarian crises." It is based on extensive consultations with experts and professionals and identifies principles, methods, and modes of operation to overcome some of the key challenges when investigating SEA involving child victims. 👉 Check it out: https://lnkd.in/e2tFqgZR. Much more must be done to remedy to SEA committed against children.

Today, on International Day of Innocent Children Victims of Aggression, we acknowledge the pain and suffering experienced by children around the world caught in the crosshairs of war and violence. 💔 Every child deserves to grow up in a safe, nurturing environment, free from fear and harm. Yet, countless young lives are disrupted and scarred by aggression every day. According to the UN Secretary-General Annual Report on Children and Armed Conflict, in 2022 alone 1,166 children were victims of sexual violence, over 8,630 children were killed or maimed and 3,985 children were abducted. Let us stand united in our commitment to protect and support these innocent children. Together, we can raise awareness, advocate for their rights, and work towards a world where every child can enjoy their childhood in peace and security. #EndViolence #ProtectOurChildren #NotATarget 📸: UNICEF

Today as we create prevention and awareness on Violence Against Children we remember all children who have and who are victims of aggression. This years focus is on protecting children in armed conflict as so many children across the world are innocent victims of war and armed conflict in their countries. In Gaza,Mayanmar, Sudan and Ukraine children are being recruited, killed & maimed, rape and other forms of sexual violence, attacks on schools and hospitals, abductions and denial of humanitarian access. Children rights are being gravely violated across the world and as activists fighting for children we need to raise our voices and play our role in ending violence against children. #internationaldayofchildrenvictimsofaggression #protectingchildreninarmedconflict #365daysofactivisim #endviolenceagainstchildren #childrenvictimsofwar #prevention #awareness #childactivists

Every day, children face unimaginable horrors, lacking safety in their homes, schools, or hospitals, enduring deadly attacks, abduction, and sexual violence. The UN Secretary-General's Annual Report on Children and Armed Conflict exposes staggering statistics from 2022: over 8,630 children killed or maimed, a 5% increase; 7,622 recruited or used in conflicts, with boys comprising 85%; child abductions, sexual violence, and denial of humanitarian access rampant. These grim realities demand urgent action.
