#Health is one of the priorities within our Strategy 2027. In our projects, we and our partners ensure that diseases are prevented or diagnosed and cured. During crises and disasters, the aim is also to care for the injured. Ruben Baudisch, Johanniter Programme Coordinator for Mozambique, attended the 9th German-African Health Forum in Frankfurt on Wednesday. The forum focused on #partnerships and #networking between German healthcare companies and the public healthcare sector in African countries. State Secretary for Health Thomas Steffen gave the keynote speech. The deputy ministers of health from #Libya and #Ghana were present, as well as the state secretary for public health and prevention from Chad. There were also representatives from companies such as Siemens Healthineers, Sysmex and BRAUN. Ruben seized the day to exchange ideas with Roland Göhde (Chairman of the German Health Alliance, Vice-Chairman of the Africa Association of German Business and member of the Johanniter Order) and Michael Rabbow (Senior Public Health Consultant, member of the German Health Alliance and member of the Johanniter Order) and to attend sessions on topics such as women's and children's health and digitalization. His critical conclusion: "#NGOs and civil society groups are hardly taken into account in the cooperation between the private and public sectors. This should change, because ...NGOs are essential partners for the private and public sector to access communities and implement healtcare activities in humanitarian and development settings. They can create an important bridge between the sectors and provide knowledge and networks to accelerate the process of improving healthcare for the people we work with." Today was a big day for EU-AU health cooperation with the launch of four new initiatives to strengthen health systems and social protection in Africa, including one on #digitalhealth – a concrete result of the work of the D4D Hub: https://lnkd.in/e2xx-kr4
#TeamEurope has launched a new initiative on digital health to support African partners to strengthen healthcare systems and bring the continent a step closer to universal health coverage. As learned during the COVID-19 crisis, the #digitaltransformation can improve healthcare access for vulnerable communities and create more resilient health systems. The initiative will thus increase African partners’ capacity to leverage digital tools to improve health information systems and epidemic surveillance networks, enable health service delivery, and support health financing and health systems governance, among other key actions. This initiative is part of a broader support package mobilised by the European Union and its Member States to strengthen health systems and social protection in Africa. Together with our African partners, we are working to improve pandemic preparedness, health security and equitable access to quality health services. "Empowering African Voices in Global Health" Africa has been a significant beneficiary of global health grants, leading to remarkable improvements in health outcomes and the saving of countless lives. However, it is crucial that we go beyond mere financial support and work towards strengthening the voice and representation of African board members within Global Health Initiatives (GHIs). This will enhance accountability and maximize the impact of these initiatives on the African continent. It is now more important than ever to recognize the expertise and perspectives of African leaders in shaping global health agendas. By empowering African leadership within GHIs, we can ensure that decisions are made in a way that aligns with African priorities, addresses local health challenges, and considers the continent's unique context. By actively involving African voices in decision-making processes and leadership roles, we can enhance the accountability of GHIs to the African populations they serve. This includes promoting transparency, inclusivity, and the meaningful participation of African stakeholders in designing, implementing, and evaluating global health programs. Ultimately, we aim to foster a healthier continent by amplifying African voices and ensuring their insights inform global health strategies. By recognizing and valuing the expertise of African board members, we can drive positive change and make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of the African people. Let us join forces to empower African leadership in global health for a brighter future.
