A Decent Recruiter To Follow. Recruiting Is No Joke Podcast Host

Recruiting the past few years: 2021: Recruiter: “I’ve got 6 fully remote jobs that pay north of six figures… you interested? Candidate: “no thanks, not interested” 2024: Candidate: “do you have any fully remote jobs open?” Recruiters: “no but I've got a job with a company with an amazing culture...” Candidate: “is it hybrid at least?” Recruiters: “no the culture is so good, everyone wants to be in the office...” Candidate: 🙄 #recruiterlife

It's not possible for a company to have a good culture but still expect everybody to come into an office for a role that doesn't need it, because poor leadership that can't effectively lead a remote domestic team is one of the first signs of a company with bad culture. Requiring everybody to come into the office is effectively managing by microaggression; it's an admission of leadership that they don't know how to lead people without using fear or bullying to instill a lack of psychological safety as a form of control, and it's one of the very first signs of a bad culture at a company. Pizza parties are an admission that the leadership is lazy and doesn't know how to motivate its employees, but isn't invested enough in doing so that they're looking for better options.

It's true though. I certainly don't want to go to an office 5 days a week. I've been willing to take a reduced salary just so I can stay home. I would have thought people would be more inclined to look at me if I'm willing to work for 15 or 20k under my desired salary so long as I don't have to come into an office.

My new response is, you are looking for someone more junior and then I pass along a competent person who does not have 30 years of experience. 🙌

In my last role, they started making everyone 25 miles or less come in hybrid. But we had all worked remote for for 3 plus years no one knew each other, everyone picked their corner did their work and left. There was jo such “ culture” they strived so desperately to have

I encourage everybody that can to work from home everyday so that traffic can be lighter when I am trying to get to work.
