CA Finalist ( group 2)| Financial modelling and valuation| Investment banking Certification (JP MORGAN & CHASE)|Ex- Razorpod technologies pvt Ltd.|Articled Assistant at K.L.D & Associates| Blogger on Medium| Writer
It would not be wrong to say that one of the highly desired domain for many CAs is none other than "INVESTMENT BANKING". I was eagerly waiting for this domain session and yesterday finally I got the opportunity to get to pour my self with immense knowledge about it and I am glad to share that Simranjeet Kaur Nanda ( Associate vice President at Mango Advisors ) was there to enlighten about all the insights and internal work regarding this domain. She covered almost all the queries in epic sharp witted session. Majorly covered topics were:- 1. Investment banking (M&A, Advisory fields) 2. Roles on buy side and sell side 3. Deal structuring, Advising, Modelling, Monitoring due diligence, documenting, disbursement etc. 4. Types of firms 5. Investment banking process 6. Term sheet- preliminary sanction letter 7. Growth trajectory - Analyst, Associate, AVP/ VP, Director 8. Top skills required professionally and personality wise 9. Hiring process 10. Role of an analyst So much was covered that it was not lacking even a bit in making us feel that this is wholesome. Pro tip given by her was " Be solution oriented instead of focusing on problem-solving". Thank you so much CA Shivam Palan for the efforts. #ca #cafinal #investmentbanking #jobs #big4 #boutiquefirms #camonk

Investment banking analysts do the work ... But investment banking associates make sure it’s right Here’s a breakdown of analyst vs. associate roles 👇 💼 Investment Banking Analyst An Analyst is like a rookie teammate in investment banking. Fresh out of college, they play a crucial role in making deals happen and supporting senior bankers. ◾ What They Do – Build financial models and valuations – Analyze numbers and finances – Handle important documents in data rooms – Create presentations for clients – Perform company research – Sometimes assist with scheduling and organizing ◾ Learning Phase Analysts work hard, learn quickly, and need strong analytical skills. They're the foundation of the team, and precision is essential in a fast-paced environment. ◾ Duration Typically work for around two years, with an option for a third year based on performance. This can lead to becoming an Associate. 💼 Investment Banking Associate Associates take on a more responsible role, ensuring that all the work is accurate and of high quality, acting as quality checkers. ◾ What They Do – Perform complex financial analysis – Refine and polish presentations – Collaborate closely with Analysts – Give the final approval – Bridge the gap between junior and senior bankers – Sometimes interact directly with clients ◾ Skills Needed Strong analytical abilities and a keen eye for detail ◾ Progression Associates often come from MBA programs or move up from high-performing Analyst roles. It usually takes about three to four years to become a VP *** Interested in getting into growth/VC someday? Audit to Investment Banking Last week, I had a discussion with a CA who had 2 years of internal audit experience. He wanted to move into Investment Banking (IB). This career move request I have received from many other CAs too. Investment Banking generally consists of areas like M&A, Research, Origination & Advisory, and Sales & Trading. The front-office roles in these areas are limited and are mostly filled by candidates from Ivy League schools after a rigorous selection process. For CAs, opportunities are usually in areas like audit, accounts, and taxation. Within Investment Banks, there are various functions where CAs, CFAs, and Engineers are needed: Financial Control (Balance Sheet close) Product Control (Risk & PnL analysis) Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) Independent Price Verification (IPV control) Market Risk and Credit Risk analysis (VaR, back testing) Can people switch from these functions to front office roles? From my experience, I have seen individuals in Product Control, Risk and Valuation teams move into trading and research roles, but it’s rare—about 1 in 100. In my next post, I can share what exactly they did to make this transition. Let me know in the comment box if you're interested. So, while a switch is not impossible, it’s certainly improbable. #Jobswitch #IB #InvestmentBanking #frontoffice #Careermove

Headcount is the prerequisite of a return offer. You want to have good review from people who can give you a return offer. So your job now is to figure out which team has headcount. In some case sales and trading people pretty much have a rough idea where the headcounts are. How transparent that information is depends on bank and culture though. That said, finding informal channel to gauge that information is crucial for trading floor intern. For investment banking division, it's the same. Even in a pool system, you are recommended to know who's the influential MD who has bigger say and get your face and name into his/her head by doing good work for his/her people. THE APPLE DOESNT FALL TOO FAR FROM THE TREE IN TOUGH MARKETS 🍎🍏🌳 Compliance Monitoring VP - Investment Bank London, Hybrid (3 and 2), £90k - £110k One for the capital markets auditors in my network. One of our Top investment banking clients is looking for those who want to make a move into an established team and carve a career in compliance monitoring. The market has proved challenging for candidates this year, fewer opportunities and increased competition. When the market is like this, you’ll hear me say, “the apple can’t fall too far from the tree”. To remain competitive you need to choose jobs that align to your recent experience to be seen. The volume of applications per roles greatly increase requiring a closer match to the job spec to stand out. This can be rather frustrating, we move jobs to progress and learn skills right? Sadly, clients want and need hires that can hit the ground running, they need a close match to the job spec. For this role we are relying on competencies and potential! Hurrah, a chance to move functions! Chris Roots is hiring for this one and will sell the dream as let’s be honest , I’m just a Finance recruiter….. but this is where our team consistently do well , combining networks to solve clients challenges as well as helping our candidates to make “bigger leaps” cross specialism. #internalaudit #compliance #bankingandfinancialservices #growthopportunity
